Which monitor? Eizo?

guys,

I am thinking of replacing my aging 24" dell monitor with a better one.

I am looking at 24" because anything else is too big.

Budget is flexible and the main concern is for photography.

Have anyone here used Eizo? Is cathay the only place for those monitors? Is the local pricing good? website says $3460 for CG245W which is similar to amazon price. But is it worth it? monitors degrade over time... does Eizo monitors last longer?? There is also a cheaper model in amazon CG243W...

Any similar quality ones with better value like NEC? HP dreamcolor??

Would love to get one with build in calibration.

thanks

Eizo gives you a more uniform output and consistency and they also have hardware calibration on the monitor itself.

The monitor like any other monitor degrade over time like you say.

If budget is not an issue, Eizo is one of the best monitor to have. NEC is good but support is an issue last time I check.

Do your work require such accurate soft proofing?

For general work, I am using iMac and it is more than sufficient for me.

HI,

i am also looking for a monitor for processing photos as my current one is going to give up on me.

If budget is flexible, Eizo is best and comes is quite a costly one. I am looking at the dell U2410 which have quite a number of good reviews on the net as well and pricewise is a fraction of Eizo.
I not an expert in this but feels that with so much good comments on this monitor, probably it is worth a try.

I have not but I would not pay that price for a monitor...

Me neither.. I'd rather buy a mid range monitor and a good printer ;)
Currently using Dell U2311.

I have been using an Eizo 24" monitor for over 5 years. This is an older series but at that time, when I compared to the Dell monitor and Apple Cinema Display, I felt this was the best. It was an expensive monitor, but so far it has proven to be very reliable. But I am starting to see some slight yellowing towards the edges of the monitor. I believe the ccfl might be showing signs of aging. When properly profiled, this monitor has a gamut larger than sRGB but smaller than aRGB. But the output matches very closely to the prints from the Epson 3850.
