Help, which is better in terms of image sharpness and focusing speed:

1) Tokina ATX 80-200 F2.8 or
2) Sigma 70-200 F2.8 EX DG APO

Thanks. Anyone knows where can i get them ?

sorry, forgot to add, i am using on film camera

for this range, i think 70-200 G SSM is the better quality one...

but i never use either before...

No idea which is better as only used the SIGMA.

For the SIGMA, satisfied with it. Sharp wide open (2.8), need to stop down one stop at the 200 end to get equivalent sharpnest comparable to the wide end. Color contrast is good. Focus speed, fast for me. This is on the KM5D and may differ when used on film.

There are some photos posted by TW on the SIGMA recently here....http://forums.clubsnap.org/showthread.php?t=158476&page=14

In the same thread there are photos taken with the Minolta 70-200 SSM as well.

If you are into looking at lens MTF graphs, you can see a comparison of the three lens at Photodo.

Minolta 80-200 f2.8 APO G. Rating: 3.9 http://www.photodo.com/prod/lens/detail/MiAF80-200_28APO(G-395.shtml

Tokina AT-X AF 80-200 f2,8. Rating: 3.4 http://www.photodo.com/prod/lens/detail/ToAT-XAF80-200_28-847.shtml

Sigma AF 70-200 f2.8 APO EX. Rating: 3.9

How much is the Sigma lens selling for?

i agree with tankm's assessment of the sigma..

got mine a few mths ago for $1460 with gst frm ap (sls)..

If I am not mistaken, the Tokina 80-200 f2,8 is the heaviest among the three. It weights like a tank. :)

Besides the Minolta lenses, I will suggest you to buy the Sigma rather than the Tokina.
I have owned that lense and the performance is satisfactory to me!:D
