I just got a new 5D with the Sigma 24-70 EX lens.
I can only say this lens is GREAT and works perfectly with the KM. Sharp, Fast and accurate focussing, great colours and the bokeh is fantastic. And .......the extra 4mm at the wide angle makes it an ideal every day lens for me. RECOMMENDED !!

If compare to 17-35mm F3.5 (over $2k), the Sigma will lose out. But now, both abt the same price and if the Sigma aren't sharp enough, I doubt about the one from KM. I just need the wide, sharpness wise, unless I am a pro but I am not

Seem good leh. Cons wise, any view? To me is ok la. KM lens, hardly got review. Maybe up to individual when buying. Who can loan me his digital to test out both of the lenses? ;p :bsmilie:

Hi there, I own the Sigma 24-70 EX DG mounted to a 7D. I've tried both the 28-75 and the 24-70 and both of them are extremely sharp, most often to the point that I even try to apply diffusion to smoothen a -guy's- face. It depends then, on whether you need extra reach (24v28) at the wide end or at the tele end (70v75). Just make sure you test your copy well, as sometimes pple get bad copies.
I have had frontfocusing issues with my sigma at 24mm, but that was solved by a trip to the service centre (body fault). Focusing at all lengths is relatively quick and quiet (not SSM like), but one of the quietest according to some members of the KMOS group.
From 30-70mm, the Sigma exhibits practically no chromatic abberations, but there is quite abit at 24mm, though nothing that can't be corrected in Photoshop. Can't comment on the 28-75 as I haven't used it extensively, but I think the CA will be well controlled.
Personally, I think the 24-70 EX DG is a monster, with a front diameter at 82mm. It inspires credibility. If you need compactness, go for the 28-75 Di with a diameter of 67mm instead. Personally I think the sigma lens has a much better build quality and inspires more confidence when I use it, as the zoom and focusing rings feel well damped, and the lens has a "solid" feel to it.

Remember, proness could be detrimental to your shooting, esp if you do street photog. That's why i'm trying to purchase an X-700 manual system so that it's more discreet.
I actually wanted to just keep quite about this (dun wish to offend bros here who have sigma lenses), but I think I should share my experience with you:
Be careful when you buy sigma, the QC is suspect and the performance can vary from lens to lens within the same model. Regarding the sigma 24-70 EX, well, I own this lens for 30 minutes. Ordered it from TCW when I was still using my Dynax 7 film camera, fixed it on, and the camera could not detect it, no aperture reading, no focusing, nothing. Send it back to sigma for re-chip and it never came back..... Luckily Uncle Don allowed a refund for this.
Buy the Minolta lens, you will not regret it.

I encounter that so many times that I don't bother much. (Like why some battery is so weak while other so good but yet, someone using it without problem.
