Dude, Singapore not having many 800mm users? I find that odd.

why weird? compared to many joining the photography population who bought DSLR + existing who already owned a DSLR i doubt many owned a 800mm. i would consider this lens to be specialised already. unless u are into birding, wildlife (u get the zoo at most in singapore, no outdoor safari park here) or moons and star. what can u do with this lens? shoot portrait? how far u want to stand from your subject?!

i will say the ratio of ppl owning this lens to be 1 out of 150 or more. Just look at the price tag and weight alone. It's not that type of regular lens u or myself or any regular hobbists/photographer will buy and use.

So far based on the poll result, the leader is 35L. So if you just want an L prime, this is the one to consider. It is great both for crop and full frame. Get this before you get the 800mm.

how is that odd to you.. that lens is so bloody heavy and expensive.. sometimes a L lens many already find it so ex and wont even think or want to buy even they can afford and here we are talking about 800mm prime. In any case...IMO not that useful in Singapore too. When you mean not many user.. are you comparing to any particular country? Singapore population is not alot you know. lol.

1 in 150? You mad? More like 1 in 15000... ;) In fact, I've never seen a shop that sells this. The shipping cost alone would put most at bay...

i am not mad. we are not talking about the whole sg population here but just the DSLR community in sg. there might just be less the 10 800mm users in singapore? anyway i already use or more if u read carefully.

Last time I saw a piece being sold at AP Funan and sells for $18K.

Dude no one is going to get their first L base on poll results. Your statement is misleading. :dunno:

We can what we need the most, not what other people favor the most.

You are certainly right. I'm just trying to get reactions. If you need an 800mm, you get an 800mm. :)

Urm I know one 800/5.6L owner in Singapore (and its not me in case you are wondering). Though for that money I would rather get a Sigma 300-800/5.6 and spend the balance on a safari trip or two.

Having tried the 300-800 against Canon's supertele prime, (and it is a fantastic lens), I would still go for the 800L if I wanted 800mm. I feel that the 800 is more for birding than safari.

Anyone tried the 400mm F4DO? Although its not an L lens, its much lighter and handholdable, something in between the 2 400mm L lenses.

There are many reviews of this lens on the net.
Canon EF 400mm f/4.0 DO IS USM Lens Review
The reviews for this lens are often mixed. Good reviews mainly come from owners and not testers.

As this lens is more than 10 years old and being quite expensive, it'll probably be a better idea to consider the announced 200-400 f/4 with built-in 1.4 TC.

I will sure look into EF 35 F1.4L after seeing the polling results. :)

This lens is "bao chiak." There are only positive comments from everyone. My one comment is that the USM of my 35 1.4 seems to have gotten somewhat hesitant after a number of years.

Hehe...u sounded like a lens promoter! :D

Wow, the number of votes for the 85 has overtaken the 135. While I voted for both I must say my 85 impressed me more than my 135. But the 85 is so bloody heavy.
