I would love to try a zeiss one day. I am surprised the ZE 35/2 is just a bit more than the sigma. Much cheaper than 35L:-) unfortunately, zeiss is only available as special ordered locally.

In comparison between 85L and 135L, the bokeh quality are both excellent to my inexperienced eye. I chosed 85L over 135L because I like 85mm working distance annd perspective view better. Otherwise, the 135L is much lighter, cheaper and much faster in AF. Candid portrait by 85L is very challenging due to slow AF.

Special order? Cathy photo peninsula have stock leh.... dun need special order.

85mm will be better than 135mm in working distance. I find 50 mm and 85mm more comfortable to work with. This is up to individual style.

Go ahead to replace it as the 50 f/1.8 II is a very basic 50mm lens. The L primes are a whole lot of different beasts and once u tried it, no matter how expensive it is on your wallet, u'll feel that it's very worth it.

Unfortunately, what you said is absolutely true. I was quite happy with 50 1.8 mk2 until I bought the 85L. I am very much in troubles as I only feel excited about prime lens now. Its going to be an expensive addiction.

It is still not too late to stop yourself.

I don't have an addiction to prime lenses though, just get the lenses that I need and unfortunately too, all are Ls with the exception of my UWA in which Canon do not have.

35mm 1.4 or 50mm 1.2 on a FF? What do u guys think? :)

Entirely your own preference and depends on what you are shooting. Some people will ask you to go rent the lenses and try first.
Generally a 35mm is more versatile and many cameras can operate satisfactorily with a 35mm fixed lens (e.g. Sony RX-1) but this is not possible with 50mm.
But if you really want 1.2 then you have to consider the 50 or 85. Good luck!

Guys, I'm thinking of getting a 35mm for my Canon 6D. The question now is Sigma 35mm or a used 35L?

A used 35L is about 200-300 more than a brand new Sigma. But my question is about the AF. L series lenses shouldn't have a problem even after long usage right?

Long usage have problem? really? can elaborate more?
i used to own the sigma 35mm. really a nice lens. super sharp. have not use the 35L though. i find in term of lens qulity, 35L is still better.

The Canon 35L is a 15 years old lens so the Sigma being a newly designed lens may be better in some ways and certainly cheaper. The answer will depend on what is more important to you, price or the brand (or L badge). Canon is also likely to come up with a 35L Mark II (that will surely be better but more expensive), will this affect you if you buy the 35L now?

If I need a fast prime I will only go for either of the 1.4 and not f2 with IS. But of course if you just want a normal 35 prime then any will do.

Some entertainment:

I am trying to decide between sigma and 35L myself. I have no doubt with sigma image quality. However, I am concerned with long term sigma support as they come up with new model so often. I meant how long will they keep providing spared parts after the model got discontinued.

The sigma solid build quality, image quality and price is really attractive though.

Your support concern is valid. Another concern is compatibility with future Canon bodies.

But if I'm looking for a 35 1.4 now, better performance and cheaper price will certainly win for me. We should not be so brand conscious otherwise Canon will be more complacent. Too bad I already have the 35L.

I also worried about third party lens and the support.... Then, I realized if it is MF, no big issue, and after bitten by Zeiss bug..... I think I will hoot a ZE 35mm F2 over the L... for me personally....
