Anyone using the Zeiss Otus 55mm have any comments comparing it with similar Canon primes? Thanks.

Anyone have any info canon having new 50mm f1.2 lens?

Won't count myself as lucky as anything can happen for electronics, just that my set doesn't have any problems.

What are your most favourite top 3 lenses?

I've 4 lenses and all are in my sig, all are also my top lenses. If I've to pick the top 3 for usage needs, will be 50, 12-24, then 24-70.

I just bought my canon 50mm f1.2 the day before... Feels great in my hands, nice bokeh... And guess what? Sigma just announced its new 50mm f1.4 art lens... I was like... Duh fugg!? Hopefully mine will perform better... Else i will be smashing my own toes...

Honestly I still prefer the quality of the L to the f/1.4.

haha yea . . praying hard my lens would be better. Do you guys shoot wide open at 1.2 ? if you do how do you cope with focus and out of focus ? I'm new to primes and decided to plunge into it, i sold my sigma 24-70 the only zoom i have now is my wide angle. so yea i'm here to seek guidance from you guys who shoot mostly on primes . .

I only use f/1.2 on two conditions, one is if need to create that very shallow DOF for close up portraits or objects, and the other is taking pics in extreme low light - near pitch darkness. Just have to be very stable on hand-holding technique, or hold yr breath while focusing and depressing the shutter.

I see . . . for shooting at 1.2 i have read up that the focus point on the subject must be aligned with other parts of the body to be on the same axis in order to be in focus. does that apply to shooting of full body shots or half body ? i'm doing weddings and portraits . . . i'm totally excited to be exposed to such huge aperture shooting but through online readings they are just telling people to be careful on the slightest movement which i understand but didn't share on how they cope with the razor thin dof . .

Just practice with a slightly smaller aperture until you are comfortable with 1.2. The eyes are the most important, don't have to worry too much about other parts of the body.

Andrew I have been shooting with f2 with my 35mm previously . . . so now 1.2 is at least 1 to 2 stops higher . . hmm yeap i always focus on eyes of the subject . . guess all i could do is practice . .

Good luck with your practice! We can console ourselves that 1.2 is not as bad as the Leica 0.95, that is really challenging.

Anything that's within the MFD will be in focus so not to worry, whether half or full body.

Anyway here're my two fave pics taken at f/1.2 which I've posted several times in CS for illustration.

Hmm ok... Hopefully i will have a whole new "perspective" in my shots... Now what i'm lacking is practice... And firing off camera flash which always was a challenge... Everytime i tried to "escape" from the fact by taking photos during day or evening time but never night... Where the use of lightings can make really dramatic images... Now with this new buddy... Gotto learn a lot of things at one go...

Gd luck and enjoy yr new toy! Certain things need lots of practice before getting them right.
