Hi,
Just want to gather info..
if you can only buy one lens for your Minolta DSLR, which lens will you get?? ;)

It depend on what you prefer to shot for, wide angle or zoom, some will prefer prime for it wide opne sharpness, or nice bokeh.

If it's general shoot and not specialise in any field, then I guess 18-200mm is the one. But don't expect it quality to achieve those field-specific lens.

Currently if I can only bring one lens out, the Tokina 17mm f/3.5 is my choice. If I know I am going for Fashion show shoot, 80-200mm f/2.8.

If there's a 18-70G lens costing below $1500, I'll get it.

Unfortunately there's none, so I'd stick to my 18-70 which gives me great flexibility whilst travelling. :)

Quite some review on the net
Tokina AT-X Pro 17 mm f/3.5

This shot was taken with it, note the side distortion though.

Definitely my new Tamron SP AF 24-135/3.5-5.6 ASP IF! Its focal length range is very usable in nearly every situation. And it can do macro too :)
