Looking to buy a secondhand compact camera to start underwater macro photography.
Heard many prefer G9 compared to G12, because of its faster focusing speed.
Love to hear comments, feedback, reviews... thank you!

IMO, both are capable camera for uw photography so my concern would be more on the availability of the uw housing n spare parts.

As most acrylic housing normally dont last more than 2 years due to material fatigue n oem's housing are not serviceable (based on personal experience), it is not adviseable to get a camera model that has been out for a long time since there may not be replacement housing or spare parts available.

Also, housing on display in shops may not be waterproof anymore as O-ring deteriorate over time even when not in use. Furthermore, oem dont service those even if they are new as there is no servicing kit available. (Personal experience again).

All the best in choosing ur first uw cam :)

I think both are good camera. It actually depends on your requirements, every camera got his own speciality which creates difference among themselves.

I had a G9, my friend has a G12. I found that his G12 can focus faster... The G9 had problem with low light, as at Malapascua's dawn dives and its biggest aperature is at F3.5 (if I remember correctly)... But I really love the G9, been using the Oly for a couple of years, cannot wait to go back to Canon! My G9 was used by my brother and recently the lens had some blur patches at the sides, we fear that it is nearing its end...
Check out Brian's photos with the G9 https://www.flickr.com/photos/brianmayes/with/14119106539/ think he had finally upgraded to the G16 this year... If u can manage to get the cam plus housing plus macro lens adaptor at a good price, I think either cam will be a good choice...
