i use those whitish transparent breakfast cereal plastic bag which is can hold its shape. just shape it up and rubber band it onto the flash head. i fit a bounce card before strapping the plastic bag on to direct the light forward.

used this method recently at rockmaster, not bad just that i duno how to control the old school manual flash.

apparently my cam doesnt read the flash according to exif data

haha..sama.. my manual flash oso like not "acknowledged" by my cam. haha... it shows flash NOT fired...

anw, the lighting seems fine... nt bad ah...

To answer the question first, i feel omnibounce actually does nothing much outdoor, it is more useful indoor. For outdoor flash, I prefer either the 580 build in bounce card or hand boucing technique than to actually diy a bounce card as it requires 0 addition cost and labor(cutting card and sticking things) and your hand actually gives a very close to human skin (well it is actually) diffused warm coloring flash. It works great, try it!

I actually read an article about diffusing flash from one magazine, will scan it and post tonight if i have time ;) .

anyway, anyone knows where can i get the garyfong whaletail diffuser? how much is it and does it comes with all the colored gel?

I have been using the Omnibounce as of late. But ever since I read this post a few mins ago, I decided to search more. And i found this!

I tried it, and yes, it gives the most natural looking flash thus far.
For me anyways.

Pop up is already a direct flash.. u can't bounce that....

U can make a diffuser for that though....

just to check if the softlite diffuser able to fix into sb900?

is the softlite diffuser good? anyone used it and prefered it? show pic if possible for comparisons :D

should be able to. it fits on the sb800 very nicely. Its using those strong black rubber bands to attach itself to the flash so it's able to expand and contract to fit diff sizes flashes.

Hi everyone,
Sorry to OT a little. Can I ask which is the prefered or more effective add-on for the external bounce flash indoor?

I'm tried using a DIY bounce card for a indoor shoot. Some of the shots are ok, but some are seriously over-exposed..

Dude.... have u been reading?

THERE is no BEST method or BEST option. It all depends on the scene and how you want to light the subjects.

If the subject is over-exposed, either you are using too much flash power (drop the flash ev) or you are too close to the subject (use smaller bounce card or dun stay too close...)

I see, how does the omnibounce work? Pointing the Flash directly at the object or person?
My apologies if my question are too noob cause I'm still learning to control the light for indoor shots.

No worries... everyone starts somewhere...

Omnibounce is advised to be used either upwards or slightly forward at 60 degrees.

I'd advise you to get a model (can be inanimate), and pactise with all the different angles, flash ev settings and also different flash modifiers.

This is one of my models which I find good to practise on :

This was lit with a off camera flash (snooted) and aimed down from the top left.

Michael, thanks for the info.
If this is a product shot, I think will have to increase the light on the plastic model face & reduce the shadow cast on the BG...
Does setting up 1 more flash unit on the right help?

It's more of a mood shoot... playing with lighting and having fun with the models... :bsmilie:
I shot it past midnight when I couldn't sleep....
