Just arrived back from an overseas trip yesterday and opened my goods ordered on-line from B&H.....

The Elan 7NE or EOS 30V as it is called in Asia (with eye control) is a pretty well constructed camera for its price...about S$630 (all in price).Even with the battery pack, BP300 attached, it still feels light (boon or bane..?) for normal use.....

It is definitely worth a read for those who are keen to get their hands on one to note the E-TTL 2 and supposedly faster autofocusing abilities.

Put the body with the 70-200 f/4 lens today and the weight is still no issue for low-light photogrpahy.....I now have to get used to handling lighter equipment after the Nikon F5 and AFS lenses...... Compared with the Canon 10D, the feel is less substantial for bigger hands (even with the battery pack)
but definitely suitable for Asian sized hands like mine.....

The new matt finish looks professional although I would prefer if the camera back was finished in the same look.

Wonder if this is already selling in Singapore coz I have not heard from Cathay since I last checked two weeks ago.

Hope this helps

So $630 with grip or without grip?

Assuming you are sticking with Canon, can try EOS30 or wait for the new EOS 30v. Price for 2nd hand should be around $500 or less.

Can I ask why are you switching back to film? You are the second person I noticed doing so after Blurblock.

Not just me ok .... hehehe ... Plrbear too ... :) ..... He bigger size then me why me so prominent ;) .... LOL

No grip included for that price....grip is another S$120

Wah someone want to sell me at $600! Cannot bargain one some more.

anyone knows whr can i buy a eos 30v?? plz include price if possible.. thanx..

I think a brand new 30V from Alan photo will cost you around $620+gst.. that was his quote some 8 months back..

but if you just go for normal EOS 30, a second hand on B&S is selling for aroynd 300+ depending on the condition..

there is a EOS 3 body floating on B&S too.. If you can afford, get that camera.. wonderful piece of equipment for less than half of what it used to cost in film heydays..

hmmm seems like im not the only one kenna bitten by film bug...

I just switched to 10D from EOS 30. The EOS 30 is still with me but dunno if i should let go or not.

Just to remind all that the 30/30V do not have spot metering. Only the EOS 3 and EOS 5 comes with Spot metering and 1/8000 shutter speed.

You might wanna ask that in the nikon sub-forums ;) They would be able to answer you better.

you looking at buying new film cam? why not look at b&s? there are some almost new film cams going at very low rates. if you are looking at eos 30/33, you should be able to get it for around $300 or less with grip.

well, the 10D uses the same body shell as eos 30/33.

imo, no point getting eos 30/33v.

pardon me! eos 30 body shell and finishes IMO is way ahead of 10D,20D or 30D except for the rear wheel, which is less sturdy. The primary mode dual is full metal, with smooth and assuring control. The 10D-30D feel like stuck plastic and my god, I can see the paint peeling off from a 10D after prolong use. Eye-control (30) is deadly efficient if you do not wear glass. I if can, i would gut out a 30D and put it into my 30 film body.

The 30V version is newer with ETTL-II but I less prefer its matte metal finish.
If you ready want to hold on to film, get a EOS 3. But no pop-up flash, so quite inconvenient at times.

The controling part is true but the mode dial is not metal FYI.

Pardon me! The 10/20/30D body is no where close in terms of body shell finishes compare to the 30/30v, with the exception of the rear wheel of which the latter feel a bit less sturdy. The mode dual of the this film body is of solid metal with smooth and assuring control. The 10/20/30D feel like stuck plastic and my god, I can see the paint peeling off from quite a few 10D after prolong usage.

If I could, I would anytime gut out a 30D and put it into my film (30) body. :bsmilie:
The 30v has ETTL-II, but I less prefer its matte metal body compare to the silky smooth 30 top chassis. If you are serious about film, get the EOS 3! But then it may be a bit inconvenient for traveling without a pop-up flash.
