because now i only plan for buy 1 lens
the image that 17-55f2.8 look nice a lot compare to 24-105 f4, sharper

but the focal range of 17-55 f2.8 is not as good as 24-105 f4
i afraid that later if want shoot far object cannot =_=

the f2.8 is it really important?

Sorry to say.. but these 2 questions reveal that you haven't spend much time behind the cam to find out at least what you are into and what the parameter of the equipment really mean.
To save you money and frustrations I recommend that you stick to your kit lens, get a 50mm f/1.8 (about SGD 120.00) and shoot whatever you can see.
This will surely reveal which focal length is good for you (there is no 'good / bad focal length' if you don't specify at least the intended purpose) and whether f/4 is good for you or not. Not all 'far objects' need to be magnified by 400mm lenses, it can also make a lot of sense to keep them in the distance - but always depending on overall purpose.
Personally, I don't believe in "One lens for all purposes", no harm in having 2 or 3 lenses.

I used to have the kit lens but limited to 5.6 at wide open plus sharpness. After switching to 17-55 2.8
I really learn to appreciate the constant 2.8 and the quality of the images. Tack sharp. Enuff said.
This lens is a keeper so long as I am using a 1.6 crop DSLR body.

Because i really dun have enough fund for another lens
now my budget only 1700
after buy the lens i will stick to the lens quite long

I know this might be out of the question somehow (24-105vs24-70), but if you want a telephoto lens, top up S$100 for your budget and get the 70-200 f/4L IS, or S$200 to get a 70-200 f/2.8L non-IS.

Since you don't know if f/2.8 is important to you, I suggest the 70-200 f/4L IS. It's sharpness is the best among the zoom range (beats 24-105, 24-70 and I think 17-55 too), and is widely used among the Canon photographers.

Some Clubsnap threads regarding the Canon 70-200mm.

I'd say that you probably might want this telephoto range of lenses because you already have an 'optically ok' 18-55 & a good and fast 50mm prime. With the 70-200, you'd cover a range of 18-200mm with 13mm loss in the mid-telephoto region (56-69mm).

Hope this helps =)

Do you need to buy an L lens? I can see you don't even quite know what you want/need in your new lens, except that it seems you want it to be able to do everything.

thank for all

OP sells non-warrantied sets. TCW sells either non-warrantied or refurbished sets.

Bro, I wouldn't say they sell "non-warrantied" sets per se. "Shop warranty" is still warranty, right? Even if they may take a longer turnaround time to resolve a warranty claim. Unless there is proof that they don't honour their own shop warranty then it's another matter.

Ah well then shop warranty, if you will.

24-105mm is lighter and has longer range for me. i switched to 24-70mm due to the f/2.8. It is very heavy lens.

If travelling, i would recommend 24-105mm since it is lighter. I would prefer to use 24-70 for events and travelling since i dun mind the weight. =)

I do believe it's a second hand set, that's already in very good condition, so they do some minor refurb works to clean it up and make it look as close to a new set as possible. Unwary customers might mistake it for a new set.

oh my, i have the exact same picture as my cellphone screen saver as your display pic. :bsmilie: but mine's coloured.

eh if i not wrong... refurbished set means RETURNED sets. coz in US, every shop must have a 30day money back gurantee. you can return the product simply because you dont like it. it doesn't have to be faulty. so where does these returned sets go? repackaged as refurbished sets lor.

I have bought a refurbished (OT) creative 5.1 speakers for less than 1/2 price. and it never broke down in my 5-6 years of usage. its still as good as new (less the dust). So, refurbished sets can be considered, if you're on a tight budget.

if on budget. consider getting a 2nd hand set. from the savings there, you can always be ready to top up a little bit more to get a 2nd lens.

17-55 is good.... you do not really need an L lens to get great shots. really.

but if you can afford L, by all means go for it.

My concept is, with 2.8, other than perhaps a slight better bokeh, yes you get a stop faster, but with the 24-105, you gain up to 3 stops with its IS. So.... your call.

Digress: Apple also has refurbished stuff at their site but comes with full year warranty.

I'd pick the 24-70.

I've tried both lenses, sold the 24-70 once, but bought it back again.

The brighter viewfinder and bokeh is more important to me than the F4 IS.

The three stops "gained" from IS do not allow you to stop motion. If you need f/2.8 for double the shutter speed that you get with f/4, IS is a moot point. I would not even consider it a gain in most cases, unless you are shooting still life.

Yep, good point there! Again, your call.

Go to a shop and try out both lenses yourself. 24-70L is a very heavy lens, and unless you can take it, you take the lens. And depends on your purpose of usage - are you going to climb the Great Wall of China for half day? If so, personally for me, I'll take 24-105 anytime.

Hmm... electrical engineer on IA has the GE90-115 on his cellphone

Anyway, these two lenses have different properties that appeal to different photogs depending on their usage. There is no such thing as a one size fits all for lenses, so just pick your poison depending on your needs/wants.

Yes. Also personally for me, if the TS wants to do low light, get a few primes (which is costly, as low light shooting is always costly, unless you talk about Nikon D3). Among the primes, 50 f/1.4 has the same colors and sharpness as 24-70 f/2.8L, according to some professional reviews.
