definetely.

dan is very nice and their equipment are very well maintained.

Can amatuer user fit in the bill. I wanted something near to CX7E Sony type of cam... think its too costly to get one just for my wedding.. :(

There's someone else in here that provides rental of consumer type cams in the BUY & SELL. Can't remember who.

hmm. i think the panasonic hd cameras with a few firestore(record footage straight to harddisk) should meet ur requirement. I think the Panasonic HDX202E P2 Camera that cinegear rents out for $300 as stated their website should be more than sufficient if ur looking at hd. But please take note on how can u go about editing the video. Shooting in HD is slightly more complicated when it comes to editing for normal consumer users. And also take note who is the one handling the video camera. Is he skilled enough? Do not forget this is ur wedding, a once in ur lifetime affair.

Warning. The HVX is pretty bad in low lights situation. The firestore is a bulky item. Also some NLE needs the DVC Pro HD plug-ins to accept the clips. The Sony Z1 tho HDV is a better cam.

May I ask whats the big diff of HD n normal editing.

Apparently, my pal know a little of video taking so not consider as Pro. As my wedding fall on 5am..... (Im not teochew, just that the auspicious timing is 5-7am). The video cam must have light .. if not it will be too DARK.... if not.. I am really considering of Sony CX7E with original Sony video light.. (I seen it and not as bright as I thought but scare if the light is too bright, it might screw my photographer).. Any recommendation????

To simplify the story, HD editing needs a faster PC and still takes longer to edit compared with SD editing, and in the end you are probably going to burn the video onto an SD DVD anyway.

Since SD cams have better low light sensitivity (in general), I would recommend that you stick to SD for this wedding. (For your next wedding you can upgrade to HD ha ha).

The best is if you can get hold of a Sony VX2000, VX2100, PD150 or PD170. They are really good in low light.

if i'm not wrong the HDV format allows for more detail in low lighting conditions, and when coupled with a strong lighting I don't see why it matters as much either way :D some HDV cameras allow you to record in HDV and export in DV too, and it appears crisper than other SD cameras as well.

I'm not sure why HDV would give more detail in low light, apart from higher resolution which applies to all conditions. HDV has the same 8 bits per colour as DV (albeit with a different colourspace) so the number of discrete grey levels you can resolve is identical. If you could provide more details about this it would be great, cos it's always good to learn more about this stuff.

Anyway, if you have strong lighting then low light sensitivity is not important. But when you shoot weddings you may not have control over the lighting conditions, and some of the places you need to shoot can be very dim. That's when a VX2000 will get the shot and the HDV cam will most likely just get a grainy image with little colour saturation. Having time to adjust the HDV cam properly should improve results, but the Sony will just work better and with very little effort.

By the way I used to have a VX2000 and a Canon XL2, and now I have a Canon XH-A1. Of the 3, the VX2000 was by far the best in low light.

Generally, HD and HDV don't perform well in low light. A rule of thumb is that in order more a higher res sensor will require to record more details. So if not enough light means lack of details which becomes noise. In my observation thus far, HD and HDV required about 10-20% more lights to get better clips.

Also most HDV cams performs rather bad in SD mode Jaggersing should know as the XH-A1 is like such, I test drived one recently. So Sony got it spot on with the EX1, HD only shots HD, you can always down convert in post back to SD to achieve better quality. it only make perfect sense, why buy /use a HD or HDV cam to shot SD content when you can get a SD cam to do that for half the price. That's like shooting a mouse with an elephant gun.

Thanks for the compliments from those who used our equipment.

Have a Blessed Lunar New Year!!!
