A lot has happened since my last post in July 2024. Singapore has decided to follow suit by other countries with drones that are above 250gm. Currently such drones only needed to be registered here. With this new ruling to start end December 2025, above 250gm drones need a B - RID or Broadcast remote identification. It is a radio broadcast beacon attached to the drone. CAAS said it will bear the full cost of such units plus installation. Still CAAS is asking for feedback which is ironic given the usual authoritative way which such agency behave. In layman's talk, everytime a drone is powered on this gadget will broadcast your drone's I'd and location which can be monitored by the authority. According to the report:
The number of unmanned aircraft registered has increased from 8,205 in December 2020 to 24,567 in July 2024.
If you are living in the east here is another reminder of the 5km limit of changi airport. As you can see from the map, technically almost all of Singapore is no fly zones.
A man flew drone from Taman Jurong park at a height of 134 meter when the Singapore legal limit is only 60 meters. Not only that he did not know that the military have a surveillance radar that detected his drone. This is first such case and prosecution.
So don't play play.
SINGAPORE: A man was fined S$51,000 on Thursday (Apr 14) for illegally flying a drone into the flight path of a Tengah Air Base runway, causing two Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) air
When you see this vehicle the game is up. Police have a counter drone unit. Again don't play play.
Is it still fun to fly drone? Well if it is lawful you have nothing to fear. The gadget in the photo is technically a frequency jammer and can take control to bring down drone. Ps you can buy such jammers if you value your privacy like if you are a celebrity living in private property.
