Where to get the best E-M5 deal?

Hi there,

Can anyone share if...
1) it's safe to buy cameras (OM-D E-M5 specifically) from JB shops? I'm just afraid if it's a faulty or blackmarket camera, have to go all the way back to exchange, can't even report to CASE.
2) any specific JB camera shops to recommend that is accessible by bus from Singapore to JB (i.e. drop-off and pick-up point is the shoppin centre where the camera shop is)
3) anyone tried buying Olympus cameras from Malaysia, then having it repaired in Singapore -- is the international warranty honoured; any hidden fees?

The price to buy from Malaysia looks really good, but the above questions worries me! Hope to hear from those who have been through this before :)

Thank you!

just get it from SLRR, cheapest in town for $1698, you do not need to worry about so many things when buying locally...

Don't know about shops in JB but Olympus worldwide warranty means u can buy yr Olympus camera from any authorised dealer in the world and the warranty will still be honoured in Singapore. No hidden cost, don't believe in those here says from some unscrupulous dealers. I have verified this with Olympus Singapore.

Went to Thieves market at Sungei road, bought an old Olympus film camera for $5.

Yes that is true. But if you buy oversee you will not enjoy the +3 months warranty as compared to local set

If the price difference is significant, i wouldnt mind sacrificing the 3 months. I was VERY CLOSE to buying an OMD from Philippines!!!

If I'm not wrong kit price in Phil price is P49k or $GD1460

I've a friend who just bought his in KL for S$1520. If register under Malaysian Olympus under Malaysian ic, you get 1+1 year warranty. If you register in Singapore even tho bought in malaysia, you get 1y +3 months warranty.

I bought mine in Malaysia for S$1600 (used credit card and pay 2%) but registered in Singapore. My friend registered in Malaysia under his uncle's name.

You can buy from Philippines and register in Singapore. Warranty is honored by Olympus anyway.

Where in KL? I'm going this weekend...

The rate at KL seem to be better than SG. Sungei Wang rates pretty good :)

We seemed to be at the losing end in Singapore. Olympus warranty in Philippines is also 1+1 if i recalled correctly. We end up paying more but getting less. :thumbsd:

*jaws dropped wide open*
Gosh. If that's the case, I really want to get my OM-D E-M5 from overseas..!

Friends, pls! Do advise on reputable camera shops in JB & KL accessible by bus from Sg!!

Unless, Comex2012 presents a fantastic deal. Though somehow I do not think the prices would be as competitive as their Asian counterparts'!

Nah shows are usually (rubbish) free gifts at normal retail price, in this case, 1888 for the kit.

Din know phil was cheaper...always tot more ex. I know Sony is more ex. We were thinking of buying retail to sell in Phil, still can make about 30% lol!

But yea, any reputable retailers in JB? Comparisons between KL& JB?

I'm only going KL after my Taiwan trip =\

My friends em5 that went in olympus subgapore for water sealed issue was bought in Malaysia (I bought for him) and registered in Singapore. Olympus honored the warranty claim.

YES, ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE as long as u purchase from an authorised distributor (RED DOT dealer).

Nothing is too large for m43 unless u only have 1 lens :s13:

I dont mind since its free. U can always give/sell it away. In fact, when i almost bought a OMD from Philippines, i told my friend to keep the bag.
