Recently, I had a chat with my bro.
He's very determined to not have a kid.
And so, I keep probing him.. why?

And he said.. he's been asking around ppl around him the question
"What's the point of having a kid?"

The more i pondered, the more i think,... seriously, is there a point??

Is loneliness a good reason? (seems like it's a fear, rather than a reason)
To keep the marriage? (that seems even more like insecurity than anything)
To follow crowd?
Because that's what everyone does??

Hmm.. does anyone have a good answer to this question?

In this world, there are four types of people:
- those who enjoy being in the company of children and love playing with them
- those who totally dislike children in whatever form
- those who are not sure.
- those who may belong to any of the former three categories, but decided not to have children due to certain circumstances (e.g. financial reasons, a strong desire for personal freedom, seeing sad stories of children from broken families etc. etc..)

Therefore, Mascaporne, your question is a good one, but it will most likely yield little conclusion because whether there is a point in having children or not, different individuals will give you their own answer. But still, it is an interesting thread to garner the views from all.

hope you can find some answers here.. Why I don't like children?

When you hear the child calling you, you'll understand.;)

let it be natural. Having a kid doesn't mean you are poorer by $$$. Not having kid doesn't mean you save $$$ as well. Same as you plan for this and plan for that, how much or can you achieve / accomplish at the end??

IMO, its a natural progression once you get married. Personally, I have kids to see how is it like, not really to follow the crowd or whatever but to see for myself on how is it like.

Once I walked down the path of no return, I find it fun and frustrating, and a whole ball of emotions altogether. It fun playing with the kid, its satisfying seeing them grow up, its heartwarming having them hug and kiss you, saying "i love u", its surprising seeing how fast they learn and comprehend things and the world around them and not to mention that its frustrating to see them not listen to you and being naughty.

This journey makes me understand what my parents went thru, it makes me appreciate them more and it made me a more patient person.

And why more than 1 kid? Cos its tough for an only child to support 2 parents when they are old. And the only child might be alone with no siblings to share the load. And as a friend that will not stray away becos siblings are closer than friends. Well, at least that is what I hope my kids will grow up to be.

I also think that after a while, the marriage will kinda get stale and its boring looking at the same person everyday (joking!) and kids is a good way to add zest into the marriage. More pple to talk with and you can play monopoly, risk and other boardgames that requires more than 2 players to have good fun.

I think that sums up my reasons to have kids.

When the kid does come around, he'll sing a different tune.

The drive to procreate is primal - assuming that mental faculties are not dysfunctional.ecx

when you are tired, coming home from work and see your little one's smile......

When you have a lousy day at office, go back home and hear your kid laughing and playing.

Once they saw you, they ran towards you giving you a hug and a very natural word just pop out 'Daddy'. Or they have just fall down had a blue black + crying but you just saiyang them and after awhile they just smile.

Hmmm that kind of warmth and family feeling you just cant express it and wouldnt trade anything for it. Even tot you have strike 1.5Mil (Toto) it just cant compare even tot i really want to strike toto haha.

Then, having a dog is much better. My kids are teenagers so the only one greeting me when I come home from work is the dog. :bsmilie:

Anthropologically speaking, the reason to procreate is to ensure the survival and continuation of a species. It's encoded in the instinctual drive of many species, besides homo sapiens.

So we should have both, kids and dog.:)

if you don't want kids then why get married?

So you can get tax relief!

hahaha.... kidding..

Seriously, if you need a reason to have kids (scared of loneliness, keep the marriage etc etc), then don't.

Wanting to have a kid should be a natural thing.

kids give u excuse to get the 1dsmkiii

That's more the ego.

I know of quite a few men who name their male children the same exact name they have, with the post-fix 'Junior', or simply, 'Jr'.
