What's so good about CP 5700???

Just did a search on some of the brand loyal extremists out in the forum..

Let's just say I'd take a very very small pinch of salt on what ever that comes out of them..

thumbs up for the battery life using the battery pack
was in sentosa shooting and it lasted me from 10am all the way to 730pm. (well with lunch break in between thought).
Hmm but one down side was its AF in low light condition really piss me off (was raining and sky was overcasted)
But nevertheless its still a great camera

One of my camera happens to be CP5700, and I have to say that every camera has its quirks.

CP5700 is a great camera. There are more pros than cons. I find people tend to dig out 1 or 2 cons in a camera in order to dishonour it. What about the pros?

CP5700 is complex and versitle, it is an excellent camera if you can master it. It has loads of features compared to others in its class. True, & unsaturated colours. Great 8x Zoom. Swivel LCD (everone wish they have this in their camera). Compact. Exellent macro built without need for additional closeup lens)

To say that it is bad for candid, is not true. I have taken lots of candids shots and the camera seldom fail me. (Check out the candid shots link below).

I have also listed some reviews and sample user's galleries below for everyone's viewing pleasure esp the newbies.

if u zoom to 8x, of course the AF is slower lah. Try 3x and it should focus faster. Turn on "continous focus", it will prefocus, hence AF is even faster. You just need to know the camera to exploit it fully.

I was just reminded of this person who walks into a camera shop, pick up a branded DSLR, turn to ISO800 and shoot it away, then he concluded the picture quality is very noisy and tells everybody his professional discovery. Little did he know that there is such a thing as "noise reduction".

hmm... i remember i read a review from dpreview sayin tht cp5700's noise reduction wasn't gd... what u think?

Not as if you'll be posting pictures at 2590 x 1920 resolutions nor view it that close to see the noise included.

The NR is not bad, but then it takes pretty long to do it.

You have to try the camera to know it. I use ISO400 before for ROM shoot, I think the noise is bearable, my shots look clean to me.

hey, any idea if i could do some modifications to my cp5700, from AF to a mechanical focus ring? think i saw someone doin tht in one of ur post. Alex Chen.. hope i didn't see wrongly.

Frankly, I don't see a need to make those changes or get so uptight over the lowlight slow AF. It's really nothing to get so hyped up about and worry over it days and nights till you can't sleep.

Really, trust me.

Low light focusing issue are common problem in among many digital camera, not just CP5700.

Some solutions below:

1) use a laser pointer
2) use a mini touch
3) for group photo, in a dark KTV room etc, get someone to hold a lighter near their face, turn it off when in focus.
