Both Panasonic (3.48%) and OM System (1.99%) have small market share.
>>> Small market share does not mean anything to a photographer. If FF works for you, especially for wide angle, go for it.
>>> For me although I have the 150-400 (300-800mm FF equivalent lenses) for my wildlife trips, I bring along my Panasonic 100-300 lenses
f>>>for travel which gives me a 600mm reach, and yet easily fit into my waist pouch)
OM System has lost money (in the red) every year from 2021 to 2024.
>>> Since 2021, doom sayers have been predicting doomsday for OM Systems after it took over from Olympus.
>>> I am since used my Olympus gear for more than 5 years and have been adding more OM Systems gear.
>>> Just like I am prepared to write off my laptops and gaming computers every few years (which cost obout the same as my Olympus system)
>>> I think I already had more than the joy I derived from the system for the last 5 years, even if OM system close down tomorrow. BUT I dont think it will. Even Hasselbrad and Leica with a much smaller market share did not.
Will OM System continue? Maybe. No idea. This company can afford to consistently lose money every year.
OM System please carry on doing the same things that make most of the market new buyers NOT want to buy from them
>>> see above. Does not matter how long OM System or any other brand last, as long as I can use it for 3 years or more.
.
There will be a tiny % of die hard fans who sing praises of MFT and OM System. They are entitled to their opinion.
The MFT advantage of doubling the focal length in telephoto lenses - is by design a crippling limitation in very wide angle lens.
>>> The limitation on wide angle is very minimal. There are 12mm equivalent lenses for MFT. How many FF users actually have lenses wider than 12mm? On the other hand, if you shoot wildlife, how often we wished we can reach more reach?
Nowadays full frame camera bodies are smaller than some MFT camera bodies. Hence "smallness" is a moot point.
>>> Compare body with body type (eg. sports) Look at Nikon Z9 and EM1x. Dont compare the A7c with the EM1x Dude.
>>> FOr the same purpose, body wise, MFT may not have much advantage, but add on a telephoto lenses and you will see the huge difference.
>>> go check the weight and size of the Panasonic 200-600mm equivalent lenses with a Sony and you will see what I mean.
Don't get me wrong. I am NOT a blind die-hard MFT or Olympus fan that die die must use MFT.
MFT may not be the best tool for all photo purposes.
I have a Sony FF too, for Ultra Wides (yes I have 10mm lenses), 85mm for portraits etc.
Instead of keep harping and pondering on market share etc, choose a system that meet your needs or have 2 systems.
Quite a lot of photographers have 2 or more cameras anyway. For me I just prefer my 2nd camera system to be of different format.
