Whats a good shop to patronize?

I like AP at Funan and Orient Photo in Sim Lim. John 3:16 is friendly but I notice they tend to be more ex than the other 2. Don't really like CP especially the Marina Square branch, the salesmen all very tao and price also not cheap.....

Just email them, asking about prices and stock availability.

i think tk foto is good. in service. price wise may not
be the cheapest.

Yes I also had bad experiences at CP Marina Square. Extremely bo chap salesmen over there.

that shop is good i bought mine from there. but one thing about this shop... if u only want to buy the body, and they dun have stock, they will sell you the body + accessories + manuals without the box and kit lens. But you can request for the box once new stock comes, so they will do a swop of the box for you. Thats what happened to me... in the end, a few days later i decided to went back to top up to get everything... then sold off the kit lens.

Body - $3168
Kit set - $4575

Thats the price i got in march. :)

parisilk has a good price in cash terms only
. svc is not the best

John 3:16 is a good place to start out. Ok not tt cheap but you pay for the service. The service is really good and sam does dish out quite a bit of helpful advice

I was quoted very good price in SL Revolution or is it SLR revolution. TS if u go John 3.16 (just below challenger at funan) might as well check out SLR revolution which is just across. John 3.16 is friendly but when I asked for 1000D quotation the dude keep hard selling 550D. The intention is clear, its about profits, but imho he did not understand when i said i am a complete noob and i need a less advanced camera to get the hang of it. SLR Revolution will quote a good price that is if u pay by cash (cos nets charge a certain percentage of the money transaction) so why not.

Alan Photo at funan is quite stuck up, they only service u if u look like can pay. I wear slipper go they bo hiu lan me. Damn sian. I like sales people who are honest about what they sell and think for me more than for profits. Hence my receommendation is biased, such that i will not recommend those who i feel hard sell the more expensive model, eg Bally at 2f funan near Alan photo.

i feel the same way too bro. i like honest salesmen who give you the best of their attention, and like you said, think of you more than profits

Yeaps. And that means they are smart and in for the long haul. Even though they earn less per deal, but I will trust them sufficiently to go back there for advices and purchase. I've done retail but never forced my customers to buy anything, chances are, some do return on other days to buy other stuff.

I always go to MS Color AMK behind Jubilee. Look for Auntie Florence.

Have spent more than $10K with them for the past 1 year. Florence's CS is okay and the rest of the staff are not extremely friendly but they are reliable and offer the lowest price as compared to others.

My 2nd choice is John3:18. The guys' smiles are a bit 'fake' but I am okay with their service. Their prices are slightly higher but then again, in this trade, the profit margin is very low already. For convenience sake, sometimes I buy from them.

Had bad experience with Alan Photo at Funan.

Actually i don't know if their profit margin is low, but seeing amazon.com i see some seller selling far lower prices than the manufacturer (canon, nikon etc). I do believe the profit margin is quite high. Saw another thread where one of them bought a flash or 599 when i was quoted almost 800 for the same flash. Think the profit quite high. But then i wouldnt know right? Haha

if you have $4k hanging on your shirt pocket. Any shop you walked into will welcome you. :) Unless you buy gears every 2 weeks, else the shop won't remember you after a few days. No point showing blind faith to retail shops.

Had a good experience with MS Colour when I bought my 28mm f1.8...had a few sms exchange with Florence to confirm the price and stock before going down

SLR Revolution is good...will not go wrong with them. Make sure u have cash with you.

I buy only from Cathy Photo. You must always get a quote first and check that the quote is inclusive of 7% GST. Secondly you can pay by 12 months instalment interest free. So far I am satisfied with the products I got from them.

Nah. I don't necessary buy from a shop bcos of blind faith, its more like there is a trust in them, based on what i had also done for homework for what i'm about to purchase. Shops do give sound advices, but such shops are rare, so i'd rather my money goes to them if they offer a decent price and is trustworthy, than another shop who tries to milk me but in the end reluctantly sell me what i want.

Its really not blind faith as my follow up purchase may not be from the same shop, just that i will give them priority considerations. That should be how you do retail, I won't have blind faith as i had done retail myself, and of course i know they probably may not rmb you. But ultimately, there is a matter of preference and my preference is not based on blind faith but trust. How u win the trust is another issue.

But definitely for me, not by hard selling 550D based on logic (by John 3.16 salesman) of "a few hundred more only ma. then 'you' can use it for longer". the 'you' as though thinking FOR me, but obviously the you was thinking more in the line of my moolah. Please, I was thinking, I'd done retail. Duh. How'd I not know whats on your mind. Told you i'm a noob u dun believe, so therefore that was it, i told the dude "a few hundred more, so u profit more ma" and I walked out of the shop.

Don't flame me, its really my preference. Maybe loyal customers they will advise according to needs, but for me, I told him i need to have good low light shots, and DxO mark told me 550D need not necessarily do far better than 1000D, its still up to the user. But he laughed off data, and instead of advising me on my ignorance, if any, he still harped on how it is more worth it to get the 550D. Annoyed the hell out of me. Felt like I talked to a wall.

Yea, abit regret didn't get from the dude. He quoted me a really good price at the time of purchase, no other shops gave the same price, not even grey sets.

I doubt he was thinking about all out profit. If it was sam that was serving you though. He's quite honest.got one time my fren was buying something, john 3:16 din have stock and sam actually told him to go opposite buy cos they have stock. Another time he was buying battery, he din have stock. He actually told my friend to go ap cos they got. I don't know of any other salesman that would be so helpful, the service there is seriously:thumbsup:

Sure he may be hardsell, but he has your interests at heart. I would push you towards 550d as well. Its equally easy to use and 550d is much more long term.

If you really need ease of use buya d3000. Its guide mode is fantastic. Teaches you quite a fair bit. Something that 1000d doesnt have. 1000d is becoming obsolete anyway...

Just my two cents ;)
