I chose Pentax because of these cute little lenses:

FA Limited:

DA Limited (pancakes):

I wish I could afford them all ;p

Ya man. I went travelling with a KM7D, oly E1, and fujifilm s3pro and for unedited pics, the olympus is the BEST in terms of color.

Dunno whether it is the lens or the camera but the color is very nice according to my wife. She basically prints hundreds of 4R photos from each trips and the olympus prints comes out really nice.

If I spend time to edit, I still feel the s3pro has better tonality/color especially in the highlights.

In terms of DR, fujifilm is WAY ahead.

Unfortunately due to poor marketing, this is not well known to the masses.

It is such that for any first time camera buyers would almost certainly ask for C or N.

I was just talking to the guys at CP; they do recommend Pentax, Oly etc to customers, only for them to reply, "Never heard before."

not surprised.. What shopkeepers are interested in is repeat sales. be it lenses, and other stuff. Oly and Pentax do not have that many to offer. For a casual Oly user most likely have only the kit lens plus 1 or 2 not many have a range of 5~10 lenses.

hi fengwei, nice "collection" of lenses. may i know how much? i've heard from friends that pentax lenses r also very good. u can shoot directly at the sun & it will turn out a perfect circle w/o flare & glare. the pancake lens is really a show stealer, makes travelling & pic taking so much more interesting. :D

btw, can Pentax DSLRs use older Asahi lenses via adaptors?

you got the 5D? Actually if Canon Singapore can give us US prices, 5D is REALLY attractive lor.

i was playing with a friend's 5D. very nice & the best part i like... the navi wheel. so convenient!! u can adjust anything & select anything with juz one hand. what do i do with the other hand? dig nose lor!! then i can have a pic for avatar juz like NMSS_2. :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

The first three FA ltd would cost ya around S$3000 to 3200 if buy new locally, the three DA ltd lenses would be around S$1900 to 20000 new. Pentax do have some excellent prime lenses, but they haven't made many good zoom lenses...

Yes, Pentax dSLR cameras can use all K mount Asahi or Takumar lenses. If it's an M42 lens, you'll need an adapter.

Cheers,

$3000 per lens, pretty steep. But looks very nice.

$3000 for all three together, not per lens ;) That's pretty good price considering their build quality and excellent performance :D

Just remember A LARGER sensor = Better image quality and not the amount of pixel. As far as I know Olympus was out of the SLR market after their OM manual cameras and went into making compacts cameras "mju". Since the digital market is a lucrative market, they decided to have a share of the pie introducing the 4/3 system claiming their superb digital lens and sensor technology blah blah. (well almost all SLR companies make digital lens nowadays to match their bigger sensor). My advice is go for a system that has been firmly establish over the years with a fuller range of lens available to choose from that will serve you in years to come.

 wondered why i kept sneezing today! :bsmilie: btw my new avatar was up for a few months liao. copyright hor. :sticktong

just wondered why those oly suckers kept buying into the system even after looking at the images produced by it. :bsmilie: guess you have to get a canon 5D for better images.

now where is the elusive 14-35 F2......

And guys please don't claim that you are special bringing a Macbook around rather than a PC laptop. To me you look like a sissy.:bsmilie:

Fuller range of lenses, sure. How many are "usable"?

"Bigger sensor" hmm yup. We can all see ourselves lugging around 20kg LF DSLRs.

Make lenses for a bigger sensor? They COULD make smaller lenses specifically for digital, but I guess they'll just have to give up their film business.

There is a clear distinction between "fact", "opinion" and "bias". Straighten it out eh?

Still, at the end of the day, it ain't the "sensor".

It's the user.

Eventually it's always the user; but no point handicapping yourself immediately. It's trite that a smaller sensor has worse noise generally, with everything equal.

My advice is, don't listen to anyone else but yourself. I think this decision is best made alone. The ones you least should listen to is the salesmen, forumsers (like us) and reviews. ... I think all that is very much biased information, difficult to find out what is based on facts and what is taste or soemthing elese. ...

I trusted Oly, so actually the first time I held the camera was after I paid for.

This is bad advice. You MUST handle the cameras before you buy them (well, it's better to do that.)

Also, forums are great places to learn about these things, as long as you are clear about the objectivity (or lack of objectivity) of the responses.

I seriously think you arent sure what you're blabbering about... larger sensor is equivalent to better image quality, haven't you heard or research into larger sensor requires lens of such optical performance which weights a ton in order to produce the same results as smaller sensor with dedicated lens ?? Guess you havent been into the world of contax G or rangefinders, where the lens are catered to the body mechanical to produce superb quality.

And pls ... a macbook doesnt look sissy.. guess you are again blabbering about technology you haven't used or arent into it.. :bsmilie: the only sissy that i see is the avatar. hahaha

u have a really big mis-conception here. big sensor not equals to better IQ, but big pixel pitch size is. a very good eg. is the Nikon D2Hs vs the D2x or the old Canon 1Ds vs the new 5D. with bigger pixel pitch, u get better colours & DR, low signal distortion per pixel.

whatever lenses available from manufacturer is not an issue. its more of what u like to shoot (specialise) that determines which company provide that equipment. Pentax & Minolta/Sony also have very complete range. another good eg. Pentax & its pancake lens, very good for street candids, if thats ur cup of tea. :)

no biggie with mac computers, ultimately its juz a pc of equipment to help us do things, juz like a camera.

Please keep the flames off. The starter only wanted to know the reason not asking to flame on hardware. Each to their own please.
