err, i don't mean to nitpick, isnt the 4/3 sensor approx 28% the area of a 135 film format?

4/3 sensor is 18mmx13.5mm (243mm sq) whereas 135 format is 36mmx24mm (864mm sq). :)

Yup,it is about a quarter the size of a 135 format sensor, not half as Oly5050 said,It's so good to be back from Malaysia,my internet feels like ferrari now :bsmilie: OT already, lol

Welcome back.

Sure good to be home eh?

Yup! No place like home, and I prefer here to there any day

For those who are interested in the details, yes, 4/3 sensor is exactly half the diagonal length of the 35 mm film whereas the old PEN F film is half the size of the 35 mm film. The PEN F film was also called "half frame", but Olympus highlighted that the F film is actually the same size as the 35 mm movie film.

The PEN was the best selling camera ever. A total of 17 million PEN cameras were sold world wide.

The PEN was so called because Olympus wanted to make a camera that was as easy to carry around as a Pen! Isn't history amazing? :D

It's more of easy to use rather than carry but I guess stories vary,Rollie had or has a camera that is smaller than any PEN I've seen so far,the PENs were half frame, the way you explain about the 4/3s sensor "4/3 sensor is exactly half the diagonal length of the 35 mm film whereas the old PEN F film is half the size of the 35 mm film." is very cheem, I had to read it a few times, simple explanation would be 4/3 sensor is about 1/4 the size of 35mm and the old film PENs were 1/2 the size of 35mm film

Same thing was repeated at the launch of the first E-Pen. The legacy continues.

I wonder if Pentax going follow Oly by remaking the Pentax 110 in digital...

I'm a nikon user and are looking at getting a smaller & easy to carry 4/3 when I do not need to carry my heavy camera and lenses around.

My choice is GH1 because of the articulated LCD which do not need me to lie on the ground when taking low angle shoot.

To me, getting the shot is more important then anything else. Don't know why some says that there are no work-around for in-build stablization. Then what do photographer do when in-build stabilsation is not invented yet? Do they take bad pictures?

The most important about a camera is to able to get the picture. So focus is very important. I read some reviews and here is someone that compares the focusing of GF1 and EP1

No focus=No Picture

Here are the reviews of the Pana 20mm and Oly 17mm from dpreview
Oly 17mm review
Pana 20mm review
Which lens is better?

Hope I can save enough to get the GH1 soon.

may be, may not be,to build something smaller than the E-P1 would mean new lenses as well as having a smaller sensor, sensor smaller induces more noise since their current DSLR has a bigger sensor than the four thirds sensor if I'm not mistaken

cool, so it means I can make movie on my PEN, provided I change film every 1.5s...

17mil half-frame or digital-pen?

110 is amazingly small! I saw some cams that are only slightly bigger of the size of the cartridge. How come they dun make those anymore?

17 Mil film PENs,not digital PENs

17 Mil film PENs,not digital PENs

To add on, it is actually 17 million and counting with the new PENs (E-P1 and E-P2) selling now. :-)

I believe its only the area that's half of 35mm. Rem film is 3:2 & 4/3 is erm... 4:3 lor. :bsmilie::bsmilie: So can't be exactly half the diagonal length, u can also have 2x smaller in sq format or more longish than 3:2 aspect. This is where the GH1 Panny multi aspect "shines"

A little story of my move to M4/3.

To me M4/3 means small, so the G-,GH-1 is out. left the E-P1 & GF-1.....I tried the E-P1 with kits lens...indoor AF is too slow...so out it goes

Dived in and read more...So I tried the E-P1 with Panny 14-45mm.....a big improvement indoors. Good enough for me, So I bought it.

Now I can use all legacy lenses Canon FD, M42 & Nikkors...real fun!

I think the ability to update firmware of body & lenses are just amazing....so the camera can process the 'required' characteristic of the individual lens' CA, distortion..etc. I keep telling myself...now I am using a rangefinder......and shoots that way too

But the low down now is no affordable UWA yet.....

One reason why I didn't choose GF1 nor EP-1 is I didn't like the handling of camera with lenses like Oly 14-54 or bigger.

Yes,, if u wanna use bigger lenses, get the G1 or GH-1 with a proper grip.
I buy E-P1 coz it.s sexy and small.

If I am gonna use bigger lens all the time, I would go the traditional Dslr route.
