What lenses you own?

I've acquired and let go of quite a number of lenses that I've kinda lost track of what's in the drybox right now. So every time I open the drybox it's like a surprise. :bsmilie:
Anyway I'm not as sentimental about my gear as some... for me they are tools, not toys to collect and the best way to get the most out of them is to use them often.
Back when 35mm SLRs were sold with a 50mm, an old Pentax lens manual that I have recommends that one spends about 3 months getting familiar with a new lens (either the 28mm or 135mm tele).
That's sound advice then and it is probably more true today as it is all to easy to fall into the "buy this lens and it will help your photography" quick fix syndrome.

OK after a quick tally I currently have the following Pentax lenses:
DA 18-55mm II
DA 55-300mm
FA 28-105mm
FA 28-200mm
DA 21mm
FA 28mm
FA 43mm
FA 50mm Macro
Viogtlander 58mm Nokton
FA 77mm
FA 100mm Macro
M 100mm
FA 135mm
plus a chapalang mix of 3rd party lenses

Wow! Some of you got very impressive collections! Scorpioh, you got the two manual lenses from me? Sorry I don't even remember I've met you before :embrass:

I used to have a lot lenses, now I've cut down my collection to the following few:

All the rest (over 10 I think) will be listed at the b&s forum soon 'cause I don't need that many anymore.

I'm counting my finger.. should be something very wide...like this:bigeyes:

I started using Pentax many years back when I was back in school with a Pentax MX and couples of manual focus lenses. Got a number of cheap junk lenses on ebay back in UK. I am not really a collector, just that I don't like selling lenses. Thus, the lens I bought continue to build up. I stopped using some of the older lenses these days, and they are still kept because of sentimental value where I snapped a lot about Europe with them.

[Manual]
Zeniter 16/2.8
M28/2.8
M40/2.8
M50/1.4
M50/1.7
M85/2
Ozeck 135/2.8
Vivitar S1 70-210/2.8-4

[Auto]
Sigma 10-20
Sigma 18-50/2.8
DA21/3.2
DA35/2.8
FA50/1.4
FA77/1.8
DA50-200

For most general photography, I think a 3 lenses setup will be ideal.
Thinking... DA15, DA35 and FA77 focal length on APS-C should be perfect.
I think I should get DA15. haaa.. but not any time soon yet. Usually, I will try to buy at least 1 to 2 lens every year.

cheerss..

I am too tempted to list my collection. Recalling how I acquired each of them is quite interesting to myself. It looks like a very "wow" collection but probably they are not in the best hands. Nevertheless they are all my precious babies. Here's my list in chronological order:

Sigma17-70 - My very first "kit lens" that came with my k10d
DA40 - The very reason why i was bent on getting Pentax. It's really the coolest lens I had ever seen.
FA50 - I wanted to try f1.4 badly and its touted as the best 50 across all brands!
M28, M135 - Gotten both from Fengwei to try out manual lenses. It's a shame I hadnt used them much but they'll always be part of my collection.
DA21 - Quite an impulse buy.
DA70 - There is no stopping once you had acquired two out of the three Limited Pancake trio.
DA35 - My collection was really lacking in close focusing ability. My most utilised lens.
FA77 - I wanted very badly to try out the FA77 magic. Can partly "blame" flowerpot for this.
FA31(black and silver), FA43 - Somehow there was a point of time I felt rich. Sadly, not any more now.
DA15 - I was bent on completing the DA Limited series.
DA10-17fe - A very fun lens I can't resist.

So is there anyway I can quit being a Pentaxian? What's my next lens? Probably the DA16-50 is I were ever to succumb to the DA* poison.

Scorpioh, you are just the right rich guy to set up a private collector museum locally :bsmilie: admission free ?

Don't normally post but here's what I got...

DA12-24/f4
DA35/2.8
FA50/1.4
DA*50-135/f2.8
M200/f4
Tamron 90/2.8
Lensbaby Muse

Only problem... no time:cry:

Oh yeah, thanks again Des. :) My son has been sick over the weekend, haven't got chance taking photo of the lens yet. Will try to show it off in the next a couple of days

So for now here is my list (not counting those I'm letting go soon):

A15/3.5
A50/2.8 Macro
A100/2.8 Macro
A*135/1.8

DA12-24/4
DA21/3.2

FA31/1.8 Limited
FA43/1.9 Limited
FA77/1.8 Limited
FA*28-70/2.8
FA*80-200/2.8
F*300/4.5

M35/2 and M50/1.4 for my MX/ME
S-M-C Takumar 50/1.4 for my Spotmatic.

Don't think I can use them all, but don't think I'd let any of these go anytime soon :)

I noticed I did not spot any Voigtlander or Zeiss lens owner in the thread, anyone have any experience with either of the lens?

I know they are both make by Cosina and I recalled reading it somewhere that that Zeiss own Voigtlander as well, but there is quite a big price gap between the two brands, e.g. Voigtlander Nokton 58mm f1.4 SLII is going for US$380 vs Zeiss Planar 50mm f1.4 US$550.

i can assure u they are ppl with voigtlanders and zeiss... ppl just dun want to show.... ;)

anyway some voigtlanders are much better values than the zeiss, thats why most of it are discontinue... else zeiss cannot sell...:bsmilie: just kidding...

the 75mm,90mm,125mm and 180mm are among the very best lenses money can buy... too bad all discontinue...

the newer voigtlander just doesn't live up to expectations... the 58mm and the 40mm SLII are good but not great...

anyway forget about the ZF/ZK lenses... imo you get better value getting the FA* and Limiteds... but contax zeiss is a different story....

Got a number of Viogtlander users lah, just that not all like to flaunt and brag about it.
FYI Zeiss does not own Voigtlander. Cosina has rights to the Voigtlander name since 1999 but stopped production of the earlier SL lenses to produce the current Zeiss lenses, which are not the same as the earlier ones made for Contax. The Voigtlanders are definitely better value than the current Zeiss lenses and in some respects much better performance wise.

Thanks creampuff and flowerpot.
