I second the 50/1.4G. Color rendition is superb and the AFS motor on it is fast.

Why not buy a D40 or D60?

he has a professional camera liao. Since hes a hobbyist, it would be a matter of time before he grows 'sick' of carrying such a heavy setup. A D40 or 60 ought to come in useful then.

Hmmm...a fairly important customer. Not important enough for us to buy the D3 and the 24-70mm F2.8. Someone else did.

anyway, 50mm lens is a special lens.

well , if you asked me, the 50mm's not "glam" enuff.
If someone gave me a D3 and a 24-70mm lens, I dont' want another lens ( at least not so soon ). I will be most happy if someone else can give me a tripod and a ballhead to support the camera.

Something light that says aerodynamic materials like caron fiber and a light ballhead that will have people grasping WOW if they are into photography.

My take is Manfortto CX190PRO3 ( or CX190PRO if he's tall ) and a MARKINS Q3 ball head. If you have S$35 spare, you can buy him an additional OPTECH tripod strip for him to sling his tripod when he's out shooting locally or overseas. I am sure he will appreciate lightness of the tripod combo.

If I am not wrong, your total package can land somewhere around the 1K region. Bargain abit at Cathey Photo though.
