Erm.. sorry to butt in, its great to have a wishlist but then if its something we would want, and likely to even pay for eg. 50f1.8, 18-200, 17-55, SB800/600 CPL etc etc..

then why would they give you free when they know we WILL pay for them..:)

Ya but i do agree with the list of useless crap..
though the umbrella was quite useful today i felt..

My take on freebies with value is simple. If vendors are not willing to give valuable freebies because customers will buy them, then think about whether customers will buy from the vendor in the first place.

Cash vouchers are the best for both parties IMO. It ensures the customer will head back to the shop, allows him/her to pick out the accessories they want. If there is nothing a customer want, he can sell off the voucher to another customer, much easier than selling something from the "Free" bundle.

Eg, of the D200 "Free" bundle right now, the only component of value to me, is only the LensPen. Yes, even for a person without any prior accessories. Therefore, the bundle's value is drastically reduced.

i think there might be 2 different models of tripods on display at the Nikon booth, IIRC.
I reckon the brolly came in handy to some who went on the 1st day as it was raining almost the entire morning and afternoon! :bsmilie:

as for the tripods, it wasn't stated clearly!
perhaps the D200 will get the 055Pro. and the D70s n D80 will get the 190Pro.

anyway, the brolly, really....

I can't remember, but was told that one model would be given away with the D200 and D80, whereas the other model, the buyer has an option to buy or something.

i know....the grey brolly........

These trade fairs normally assume buyers are new users and needs the free gifts and aims to help the buyers (aka newbies) kick off their shooting experience + learning curve.

They can't keep everybody happy.

Imagine a D80 user bought the D80 kit, but the bundle came with 50 f/1.8 and a D80 eye-cup set instead of SD cards and tripod.

So now how? Who defines what's useful? :dunno: Why not go out shoot more?

But as they proceed up the curve, they'll be wanting or buying these items at a later stage. Given these options, the optional freebies or upgrades can help these newbies along the learning curve. :)
