Too bad, this poll is not about the sharpest filter..I just broke a normal Hoya filter (No SMC / HMC / HD or whatsoever) to reuse the filter ring for different purpose. I can definitely vouch that this is the sharpest filter that I have ever handled as when it pierced my finger, the cut was so deep.

Hei look, it's lens not razor blade, so no 50p... The sharpest lens is my old spec glass LENS as I have gotten cut by it before when it broke...

No macro lens ah?

It is more like the pollers supporting the lens that they own :D

This poll makes no sense at all... Lens sharpness is one of the least important factors when comparing lenses. For a start, all the lenses you mentioned are for different purposes so there isn't any point in comparing. PS: All the lenses in the poll are razor sharp and any difference in sharpness is most probably a result of human error.

many sources point to the 135mmL as the sharpest lens

i agree with Jed, I have used all lenses for about 2-8 years but I cannot have a concrete answer to which is the sharpest lens,

DOES IT MATTER?

WHAT DOES THE SHARPEST LENS DO TO YOU OR YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY?

I have used all the lenses sufficiently except the 2 F1.2s. I would maintain that 135L really shines at what it does, shooting wide open is really pleasing.

Although I would put the question across, why would you compare these lenses? And why here? You could look up some sites where they have tested several copies on objective charts, analysed by computers, etc etc., MTF charts or whatever you call those. Would that be better than seeking an opinion here and being ridiculed.

I would say that when taken in the right context, sharpness still matters, but this comparison has considered an unrealistic range of lens prices, focal lengths, and purpose.

Isn't it interesting that of the people who have specifically said in this thread that they have used all the lenses, more of them have stated that they can't tell definitively which of them is the sharpest?

And it is the people who probably haven't used them all who are quite happy to have a... let's be honest... guess.

what i can't stand about this thread is not the question, but rather the following sequence of flip-flop replies by the TS.

1) first, the asking of a ridiculous question/poll,

2) after being grilled, says this is a test of people's knowledge, and complaining that people shun away from discussion,

3) next complaining about people being rude as a shield for actually being afraid of being tested by the TS, and

4) suddenly TS becomes the "righteous one" and agrees with Jed that people are giving nonsense answers, and encourages people to post more "nonsenses" answer to show how mature they are,

5) and lastly, saying that even people who "don't know the answer, and avoiding answer...........literally tanishing its reputation". so even people who don't answer cuz they have not used all the lens are tarnishing "its" reputation?

So the TS objective in raising this thread is an attempt to encourage people to post nonsense answers, and also to say people who are not answering in this thread are tarnishing "its" reputation.

What is the lens in order?

i) 135mm f2
ii) 50mm f1.4
iii) 85mm f1.8
iv) 85mm f1.2
v) 70-200 f2.8 IS
vi) 24-70mm f2.8
vii) 50mm f1.2
The reason for this posting is just test your knowledge and or opinion, but seems like majority of it rather than contributing a useful opinion; most shunning away from giving a matured thought.

This should be a place where we could coined up a topic and dicsuss informally, in a matured way rather than what's happening now <sigh>.

At last a more matured answer.

Do you need to be so mean? Probably someone is a lawyer or an English teacher by practice but please be more sensible to the layman who simply choose a little ambigious/vague word.

Perhap scared of being tested?
Someone ask a friend a question? and his friend reply,

"what a silly question? you're wasting my time with this silly question. Do you want to test me?"

Or

":sticktong:. blabla bla <some sarcastic remark>"

Or

"I'm sorry but just to let you know you won't find a definite answer for that"

Or

"I don't think it's fair to phrase your question in such a way. But perhaps, I could try to answer your questions ....."

How do you feel for each of the reply being on the other side( the poster)?

That's what I mentioned in the previous posting majority of it who don't know how to answer simply avoiding to answer it by posting some immature, nonsense answer and more to come.

And I agreed with you, and this made sense, mostly who don't really use all of it but here they still try to reply with no answer which is simply avoiding.

The rest: come post more nonsenses answer, that would depict how mature you are.

Yes, those who don't know the answer, avoiding to answer, giving childish answer literally tarnishing its reputation, in reality their own one so to speak.

If one disagree, one should show the utmost professional way of answering the question being the leading forum int SG.

Maybe TS should have made a disclaimer to warn people that "Only Canon Masters and Shi-fus are allowed to enter this thread and vote". Saves all the bombing ammunition.

That's unnecessary if people applied a little common sense. You don't have to be a master or a shi-fu, just to have experience with the things you're polling about.

Why do people need to be told that they shouldn't contribute user experience about something, if they have no user experience with it?

Example: I'd like to find out more about the Canon EOS 0.5 Mk XXVI. Can anyone please share their experience with it?

Disclaimer: Don't share your experience if you haven't used it before.

There's nothing at all elitist about any of my comments here, just trying to ensure, apparently in an unheard of concept, that people who are polling about things actually have SOME experience with the things they're polling about. And in the case of a poll picking out the best out of eight options, it's also basic common sense that you can't pick a "best" without having experience of all the options.

The reality is even more complex than this due to variation in performance from copy to copy.

Although what you say is true to some extent, I wonder why you have interest in this particular forum since you have no Canon gear. What's your motive or interest? To act as a vigilante for your own brand? To promote your own brand of 'wisdom'? To act as viral marketing agent? Or perhaps you are bored 'cos your parents are not at home?

Thanks for 'monitoring' the thread. Some people just good at 'monitoring' but nothing else.

One should analyser critically. Just look at the post right now. As I've said your posting depict who you are.

What's the point here  ?

Okay, I just changed my vote. You are the sharpest (as of latest). ;-)
