Good one.

you're certainly not tax nor accounts trained. :bsmilie:
Don't forget singapore has GST. Importer has to pay 7%. Then, when the product is sold to you, another 7% is taxed. effective rate will be around 15% if only 1 level of distributorship.
Hi,
Was wondering how much profit does each lens give to the retailer. (cathay/john 3:16 etc). Was wondering if camera brings more margin than lens or vice versa? Just curious to know how this industry works etc. Hope nothing is too sensitive to discuss here.
i think cost price is around 60% of rrp..
Canon previ purchase is -20%.. Sure they target ard 20% profit..
This is what i think..
Otherwise when model get older.. How they get margins for further price reduction right..
Retailer is unable to claim back the 7% as the goods have been sold to consumer. They pass the 7% cost to consumer. Unless the consumer is a tourist, they can claim back the 7% refund.
What I heard is that the sales people have the "cost price" which is cost + shipping + maybe a bit of overheads etc. Anything above is split 40 60. So people are free to negotiate if they are really interested
if every sale = $10 profit margin, then quite sad. :bsmilie:
got better jobs out there to do, better things to sell. :bsmilie:
true...
if only earn $10 for a 1k deal... must well sell vegi rice better....:bsmilie:
Actually most of you are wrong, shops don't earn much espcially like TK, J316, AP etc... what they earn is by selling in qty instead...I will not disclose the actual detail, just give u example
lets say shop A sell 100 Camera, shop B sell 50 Camera, than Brand A state every piece they sold they get etc $5, so shop A will earn $500 while shop B get $250 from the brand maker
that is why these shop prices are so competitive...
Staying in landed property yes, most shops don't earn much by profit the cameras but by contract
etc Canon give them $5 for every camera they sell, different brand have this kind of contract
you know a shop of the Boss so? are you in the sales line? I know such details as I'm in one, and I can tell you, some shops relied on contracts, some by selling accessory
