Had a go at it today, $1280 seriously seems overpriced with it's design, but the AF-S and VR module is the one that causes the cost to go up I guess.

I think price is not the biggest issue. The biggest issue is the weight and size.

To maintain f2.8 at 200mm, the aperture (and hence the last lens element) will have to quite big. Have you seen the size of the 70-200mm? For a 18-200mm f2.8, the whole lens will be much bigger than the 70-200mm f2.8. The reason is because it will also have to achieve the FOV of the 18mm.

Would that be a "perfect" lens if you have to lug around all that weight all the time? I don't think so.

lol.... thought that's one of the reason why going DX design... compact and light weight mah ;p Well though the technology can achieve that,... I also no money to buy such highend lens
