Just want to say i like my 10-22 :)

35L is very very sharp... and can nail almost anything in low light too.

16-35 f2.8 is good for indoor shots with diffuse flash

unfortunately - there is no sharp wide angle. Which is my biggest gripe with Canon. They are all quite soft at the edges/corners

Are Nikon's any better? I'm about to buy a 450D and the main reason I chose Canon over Nikon is for the lenses. Nikon simply don't offer the prosumer f/4 L series equivalent. Please advise if you think I'm making a mistake or misinformed?

Hi,

IMHO, Canon entry level DSLR perform better than Nikon entry level DSLR at a lower cost. Also, Canon lens range is very wide from entry level, low cost lens to high-end lens, while Nikon only make higher end lens.

Anyway, both Canon and Nikon DSLR are good, just don't buy anything lower than Nikon D90 if you going for Nikon... you'll end up spending more money when you going to upgrade your lens as all models lower than Nikon D90 only auto focus on AF-S and AF-I lens which are quite expensive.

Have a nice day.

The 16-35mm L is the sharpest.

Here is a comparison between the 16-35mm, 17-40mm and the 10-22mm (EFS for cropped body) and you can see the differences are quite significant! Click on the 'corner sharpness' photo.

For Cropped sensors, the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 is sharper than the Canon 10-22mm but take note the Minimum Focus Distance is further away so if you like the distorted wide angle effect, the Canon would be a better bet.

IMO, if not count Canon, Tokina 11-16 is quite good, only drawback will be the short focal range.

somebody already said canon does not make best wide angle lens.. I own a 14mm f/2.8, but I think in canon lineup dont look anything below 24.. Here is my preference

Non L = Canon 24 f/2.8 (the 20 mm isn't sharp wide open). Actually 35 mm f/2 is great.
L = 24mm f/1.4L
Non Canon = Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8 (use an adapter with AF confirmation, does not autofocus on EOS but we dont need autofocus at such wide angles, do we?)

fyi, if you really want to, you could do the same as this fellow i saw at funan today.

nikon d300 + canon L lenses. obviously there has to be a converter, but im not sure about the disadvantages of such builds. all i know is that he combined just about the best of two worlds. ( good aps-c and L lenses )

the 14-24G is the absolute best wide angle zoom out there, period.

there is no converter for canon lenses onto nikon bodies.

however, the contrary is true. many people do adapt all sorts of lenses onto canon bodies.

you do know about needing a special adapter to stop down G lenses right? otherwise, you won't be able to control the aperture blades and will have to shoot wide open all the time. (and also the fact that the order for the adapter is on a very long wait list).

but i am pretty sure i saw correctly. i was with another nikon user and he felt the same way. the body is definitely a d300 because it was clear to see. there definitely was a converter because there was an unfamiliar 'bridge' between the body and a red-ringed typical canon L lens.

we both may be wrong, but what lenses could you think of that sports the unmistakable red ring of canon Ls?

could be a home-brew converter... but i wont know till i find the fellow again =P

The Nikkor F mount is very much smaller than the EF mount, so receiving a L lens on a Nikon body is actually deemed to be impossible. It may be a one-off custom converter that you saw, or you eyes may have tricked you. :bsmilie:

Red ring red ring red ring.... Hmm...

i don't know. Two people can't have mistaken canon Ls for another...

shrug. keep on hunting for him. lol

For crop, 14mm f/2.8L II, 16-35 f/2.8L II. Full frame, 24mm f/1.4L, 16-35 f/2.8L II and 17-40 f/4L.

Why get all excited over what other people use?

The Nikkor 14-24 G is untouchable -even by many primes except perhaps for the likes of the Zeiss Distagons etc.

If you are primarily out to shoot wide angle on full frame, go for Nikon. [This is coming from a Canon shooter] That said if you are budget constrained, The EF-S 10-22 is not a bad choice on crop and I've heard good things about the Tokina 11-16 though I haven't used one personally.

Sigma also with red ring ;p

I think the answer would depend on how you use it. ;)

Seriously, I owned bought Canon 17-40 f4 and 16-35f2.8 and I don't really find much difference. I would buy the Canon 17-40 f4 if I were you because of the price difference.
