I found CS while I was new to Singapore, looking for like minded people, portraits photogrpaher, whom I can go shooting together.
I have found what I was looking for. I am forever greatful to those whom I first met, first shot with, and became friends.
I have also discover CS, especially the portrait sub forum to be the most squabling place I know. I then discover that it is place where comments are usually sugar coated. And last but not least, a place where straight talk is not welcome, by many at the very least.
It is also a place and time where "Deadpoet" had developed a love/hate reputation. But I have no regrets. Starting the "messy hair" crusade, whom a few frowned on, did more to improve my own ability to observe, to critique, and ultimately, a better photographer.
I still have a long way to go to become the photographer I want to be.
But most important of all, I had made sme very good friends through CS. Thank you Club Snap!
Yo, u see, ppl see Clubsnaps differently, but still can tahan each other in CS, so if 1 bothers too see further, 1 can actually sense something.
It seem like the atmosphere was very good back then, which is really the kind of ClubSNAP spirit most look for, compare to now.And there I was, trying quite hard to seek advise from somebody, or anybody who could advise a newbie what camera I can buy with a set budget. Terms like, CA, optocal zoom, manual control, storage media et al. flew over my head which basically depressed me.
Then a kind soul from HWZ (they existed then i guess...) pointed me to this place and from all the friendly advice i got, i plunged ahead and bought my Olympus C700UZ. This camera started me off and served me faithfully as i joined various outings and met alot of like minded people who were keen to share.
Megaweb was most notable in that sense. Unassuming and ever ready with advice, I slowly learnt to appreciate macro photography (and was showed how macdonald's serviettes works as a flash diffuser). Not much later, a new camera was bought. It was a Fuji S602Z (which i still own) which gave me so much pleasure to shoot with. The colours were vibrant but the slow af really frustrated me but hey, it is only a prosumer...
Anyhow, with the encouragement of some of the friends I have met, i started to post my macro shots and of course, alot of them were really poorly taken. But as time went by, I better understood what makes picture stand out. This was only possible wit the generousity of CSers who were ever so kind to share...
Interestingly, a friend of mine who was abt to start modelling saw some of my pictures of my baby cousin and macro shots and asked if i could shoot for her. I agreed and soon after, her other friends who were models also started asking me if i could help. I was grateful for the opportunity and as i continue to shoot, I also remembered to post my pictures to seek the views of my friends online here in CS.
And then I posted this shot which I believed was my very best effort ever. I was really happy with it! (Do note that it was still awhile back) I eagerly posted my pictures and the first comment i got was... Pontianak!!
I was so angry that I was ready to let loose a few choice words at the person but again, someone told me to take a step back and try to seek where this person was coming from. Was he being a troll? Or did he mean something constructive and had no proper grasp of language to express his views? Again, it was a fellow CSer who showed me what taking a step back can do...
All these while, I continued to shoot and join friends whom I have met here for coffee outings, SEEDs or photo outings all over Singapore. As more pictures were taken, offers to shoot events came in (but I was told that i will not be paid, but only credits will be given) andI plunged ahead, eager to try something new.
A friend of mine (lets call him D) who then saw my event shots then asked if I could help cover the gig of a local band and i gladly agreed. The pictures were taken, posted here to share but the resulting effect ws something i never expected.
D then sent the URL of the pictures to a couple of friends and this couple emailed me, asking me to join them for coffee because they too enjoyed photography and they enjoyed my pictures. This was the start of a lovely friendship that I still cherish. In fact, an invitation was extended for me to fly to Melbourne (which i accepted) to take a holiday and to take in the sights but something nicer was in store.
Another fellow CSer who was studying in Melbourne who found out that i was heading over immediately offered a place for me to stay for 2 weeks. I was so taken aback. Never would I have expected such kindness but it actually happen.(Thanks J)
Now, as my circle of friends grew, more opportunities came my way and I have recieved so much from all the kindness that was shown to me and this is what CS is to me. For better or worse, bickering and all, I am ever so grateful for CS for being such a lovely place and the springboard where i got so much of advice and opportunities from. It is one of the reasons why I continue to believe and try.
This is why after all these while, with everything that has happen, I still believe that courtesy, tactfulness and advice can change minds and photographs.
I hope CS can continue to be such a place where young photographers or newbies are given a chance to shoot, share and perhaps become a better person/photographer as time goes by.

I just feel that CS has become a place for certain parties to push for their agenda and getting more politic, which is sad to see how this forum mature into sometime.
ohhhh.....ahhhhh

What is Clubsnap depends on how ppl want it to be, instead of blaming on ppl, think abt how to improve urself here.
I have always been playful here, not really contributing, so i will improve on it. rest assure i will not harrass ppl here, unless the ppl deserve to be slam.![]()
A very abrupt u-turn from your initial posting.![]()
When we learn how to appreciate lousy pictures, itself is already an improvement liao.
u noe why?
WHY???
Cos only a handfull understands my post here. If ppl know and understands my initial post, they never ask me why.
I beg to differ.. Some people do share but there are people who doesn't want to listen.. I guess in the learning process, the learner has to fall first before they ever learn. So let it be, I am sure many are willing to help those who fall pick themselves up again and that's when they will learn. What is CS??????
When i first come here, i thought can learn from master.
Then i realise that most are amature, some pics really cannot make it.
So i thought CS is a learning ground, where ppl can learn.
Then i realise alotta master dun share, cos its secret.
So ammature goota learn mostly by hit and run.
Of course got ppl willing to share, but not much.
So i thought CS is a base for ppl to meet, amature to learn from each other.
Then i realise its always that same bunch of amatures together.
So i thought, CS is for what?
Now for me, CS is a place to buy things, sell things, and sometimes see ppl post pics that are lousy. So i can laugh. By me only. CS is also a place for me to see great marco, landscapes, and i enjoy kopitiam, always see ppl argue till red face, also dun noe for what, popcorns time!!!
This is what i though of CS.
I have put my piece on what is CS, u can say ur piece, just dun need to slam me, as that is what i see.
Please...Boy... U want me to sue you for making funny noise?:nono:
A female dentist just did that to one of her patient.
CS is also a place for ppl who are too free maybe jobless to go events everyday and shoot models and post here for our enjoyment.

That is a perfect job.
How many of us wish we can do that.
Well, why do we need to care about being paid or not, as long as the shooter is happy shooting.Perfect job???:dunno:
But have to PAY to shoot and not PAID to shoot you know![]()
