So far those who dare to post windows shots are shot down pretty badly. The typical view out of HDB flat is really *bleh*...
I only open windows to take shots of moon or clouds movement time lapse. But if you have a nice scenic view, by all means and impress the crowd

Agreed, reading and researching urself is much more informative as it tends to get screwed into ur brain permanently.

I read up 2 month on all aspects of photography before picking up a d7k as my first dslr, def helps i tell u! was torn between a d300, d7000 or even going FF before.

and yes there is A LOT for u to read up and gain knowledge. of course, there's a lot of helpful bros here but dun take their help for granted. do some urself cheers

If you're really as generous as you claim you are, then there should be no issue with signing up for some classes and meeting people of same/similar skill level to go shoot together
Then you can also learn from certified teachers.

Turn your lens to 35mm and force yourself to shoot at that range for one day. The next time you go out to shoot, turn your lens to 50mm and do the same.

yes, use gaffer tape, or any tape.. tape it so you can't move it.. LOL!

Dear Seniors,

Another newbie questions of mine ....

My Nikon comes with Kit lenses which is a bit heavy.

One of my friend go shoot around with a 35mm ... i think it is f 2.something.

The picture not bad ... and very cool to walk around light.

My questions:

1. What is the difference of 35mm and 50mm?

2. Which one will you choose and why?

3. 35mm sharper? but can only shoot near near stuff?

4.50mm also sharp ... but can shoot further??

*I know my nick name is 'google' ... and people ask me why not i google around .... but i felt internet not always true and i felt the people here are more sincere and expert ..... also if anybody bluff me, i know who and where i can look for you :bsmilie:....*

Please do not laugh at me.

1. 35mm cost more than 50mm.. Due to 35mm is wider.. Compare same max aperture lens.

2. Which one u chose depend on what body u use.. I on crop nikon body. So I will not chose 35mm.. End up with a almost no use lens for me in my super simple set up.

3. 35mm if u r talking about the f1.4 one.. Yes, it is sharper than the 50mm f1.4 one.. There is some one at the portrait section shoot his child with it.. See le steam ah.. But cost around S$2100 new..

4. 50mm if u talk about the F1.8D.. Is not really tat sharp at F1.8D.. Dnt get it bcos ppl says cheapest bang for bucks.. If it's so true.. There won't be so many of it selling daily at the bns section le.. Cheap why ppl dnt hold it.. Useless than ppl sells it.. Right? No?

5. Some ppl just use 1 lens thru out.. Me I uses 2 prime only.. Some is one prime and one tele zoom.. When I got the money.. I will buy the 24mm afs 1.4 n 70-200 f2.8 only.. Now I using 24mm f2.8 n 50mm f1.4g.. Cheapest I can afford now.. And it suits what I need..

Shot more to understand what you like most.. Then move on from there.. When dealing at bns section.. Do double check new grey pricing.. It's sometime cheaper to get grey with one year warranty than used local set without warranty.. Dollar or dollar comparison..

now this is interesting when you quote saying no use lens on crop bodies, i personally find 35mm on a crop body is a better companion if compared to a 50mm (one is wider allows you more creativity while the other is much tighter in most situation especially indoors)
