What do you bring (photographic equipment) for travel

most of u will take along a zoom lens 200 or 300mm alone, normally use to take what type of pics

If you like taking shots of wildlife and candid portraits of people, the telephoto zoom is an indispensable lens. There are some things around you that your standard walkaround lens just can't capture from afar, like a close-up of an animal's face; a particular ornament in a geisha's hair; a colour detail in a wooden sculpture, etc. Your telephoto zoom works as well as your imaginaton allows.

really depends on what you want to shoot...

For me, other than the DSLRs

1 Wide Angle Zoom, 1 Standard Zoom, 1 Medium Zoom with TC

other than devices to backup my data, wireless trigger and of course the trusty tripod.

Canon 40D with 10-22mm, Tamron 17-50, 60mm macro & 580EX, other accessories are CPL and plenty of CF(dependent on the weather, last trip was a white elephant)

I never bring my tripod for trips since I get minimum chance to use. Macro very seldom use but bring along.

Plan to bring only the 10-22 & 18-200 for my next trip. bring 1 set of battery and buy disposable if needed.

Canon 450D body
Walk around lens
Zoom lens (use only 5%, but still put inside bag all day...)
A PnS

4GB SD card X2
Tripod
CPL, Cokin filter holder
Extra battery
Lens cleaning cloths for wiping lenses/gear
Asus eeepc + 320gb ext hdd (leave at place of accommodation)

I love to use a D3 with 17-35 and 70-200 for travelling.the 14-24 is something to troublesome to use though.Too bad I can't afford any of these.

For me is full gear!
1D3
16-35
24-105
85F1.2
135F2
300F4
Batt Pack for flash + 580EX
GT3541L
Thinkpad T61

All this in a back pack! (I only leave behind the specialised lenses)

Last trip, I went to Macchu Picchu in Peru. The elevation is about 3,700m above sea level. I brought along my 40D and 18-200mm and it was as much as I could bear. Just walking up the stairs at Macchu Picchu is tiring because of the lack of oxygen at that level.

I left my flash, tripod in the hotel.

Hi lightning, looks like a whole lot of weight there you have.
When you board the plane, do you carry just these in your backpack as hand luggage?
Or do you carry another backpack for your personal items?

I have another hand luggage. Camera Equipment is not counted as hand luggage. Once they wanted me to check in the equipment. And I told them that if the camera/lenses are damage in anyway, they are going to be fully responsible. After much discussion, they decided to let be carry it myself and not want to be responsible for the damage.:bsmilie:

Well, that's a good way of putting it across to the customs officers. Were you in Singapore's airport then?
Because I was just wondering, if we happened to be in some old, run-down airport in some ulu ulu places, the customs officers there may decide not to allow us to carry the camera equipment despite our warning.
What do you think? Any such experiences?

On a big trip out, 3 of us brought along a total of 3 dSLRs, 2 film SLRs, 1 rangefinder, 2 PnS, not to mention 3 cameraphones, spare batts, 30+ rolls of film (negative and slide), power-cords, chargers, extra CFs, cleaning kit, AA battery adapters for grips, teleconverters etc:

Canon 30D + 100-400mm + 28-75mm + 17-35mm
Nikon D70 + kit lens + 70-300mm
Nikon D200 + 28-75mm + 70-200mm
Nikon F80
Nikon FM10 + 35-70mm + 17mm
Bessa-R + 35mm + 50mm

And our only shared tripod was never seen again after checking into cargo at Changi..

If travelling with family and kids under 6 years of age. Just a D300, 18-200VR and SB900.

If travelling without, almost every equipment without redundancy (eg Two flash units)

i prefer M6 with 50mm f/2

best set-up for travelling light ever

The more ulu the the airport is the better. they are more "bochap". So far only be questioned once then I have my camera backpack, my hand luggage, and a guitar. They feel that I have too many things on hand. So I told them I don't mind checking in if they give me a black and white that I can claim all damages / repairs against them.

My travelling gear now is:
Olympus E-P1, 14-42mm lens, 2 batteries, 2x 8GB SD cards.
