if dangerous i would bring a D3 + 70-200 VR + HUGE tripod armed with knife at its legs.
D3 with 70-200vr to wack the person. tripod to trip the person/use as ladder/etc
if all else fail throw the 70-200 vr at him and run as fast as u can:bsmilie::bsmilie:
this thread is degenerating... and i hope that TS has gotten his answers.
But...a D3 and a 70-200 would be suffice to whack any potential robbers. Just be ready to use it...you are going to lose the equip anyway, might as well put it to good use.

the last time i explored parts of malaysia in a rented car, my photographic gear only:
1) D60
2) AFS 24-85 F3.5-4.5
everything inside a lowepro photorunner. still very spaceous for my other personal stuff.

What did you shoot in HK that requires you to bring so many lenses?
Just got back from 3 weeks in Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Bosnia and Croatia. Brought two Nikon D60 bodies with 16-85 and 70-300VR attached. Found that I was shooting with the 16-85 most of the time. On final tally, I think only 15% of my shots were taken with the 70-300. Guess I'm more a wide angle kind of guys although this may be bacause of the locations I travelled to. Eastern Europe has lots of very interesting architecture. I suppose if I were shooting pics of animals in africa, a long telephoto would be more useful. I also found VR to be extremely useful for indoor church or museum shots. Was shooting at 1/8 of a second a lot of the time. Next time I travel, maybe I'll leave the 70-300 at home and just bring a 35/1.8 mounted on the backup body.

2) Canon F/3.5-5.6 28-200mm <- Trusty as always. 1 lens for all occasion except low light conditions ;p
3) Canon F/3.5-5.6 18-55mm <- Did not use that much
4) Polarizers
5) Extra Batteries
6) Crumpler 7-million Dollar Home
7) Silk Tripod <- Did not use much. A lot of places of interest I revisited disallowed the use of tripod as compared to when I was in Japan 2 years ago. Maybe it is time to go monopod :dunno:
Was hoping to get some glass in Japan but the Yen was too strong :cry:

6) cloth, brush, blower.
7) Domke wrap for cam as I used my back pack to move around.
8) I forgot to add....my back-up LX3
Nice & light.....but if the kids are not with me....would bring the Gitzo along. Could not take nice night shots of Opera House without tripod.

My setup is almost the same as santaclaus2100 except I'm using 30D. In addtional when I went travelling in France, Italy & UK, took along
1) 50mm f1.8
2) Manfrotto tripod
3) Oly PNS
I felt the weight was too much after the first few days. Certain days took my PNS when I can't take it. It is a holiday too, to enjoy and not to suffer.
