Del_CtrlnoAlt said:hmm got metering... den hotshoe... should be a flash metering thingy..
student said:This is just a simple reflective light meter.
It is not a flash meter.
Commonly used in older rangefinders without built-in meters, such as the Leica M3 ad similar Leica clones from UK, Russia and Japan.
Many of these used some kind of light diodes. You will be lucky if this one still works!
KCLow said:It seems to be working as when i point it at different intensity of light the needle actually moves. Cannot say whether accurate or not. I also suspect it is for a rangefinder, however I want to find out for which one.
student said:This can be used for any rangefinder. You don't actually have to put it on the camera. There is no electrical connection anyway.
KCLow said:The disc under the shutter speed dial has a notch in it and it actually turns with the dial. I suspect it actually catches on to something on the camera so that you only have to set the shutter speed dial on the meter based on the needle position and the notch will turn the dial on the camera?![]()
student said:I have a similar light meter on my Leica M4. There is a notch on the meter which latches on to one of the dials, I think the shutter. When you rotate the disc to get a metering, the shutter dial also moves. So in that way, it can be specific for that particular model. But it can be used independently without being attached to the camera.
Mine does not work anymore. But it certainly look cool on the camera!
KCLow said:Came with a batch of camera accessories I bought from ebay. Can anyone tell me which camera this is for? Thanks.
KC
this is the meter for the Minolta SR1
the shoe is not for flash
it is the clip on shoe for attaching the meter to the camera body
there is a mounting bar in front of the Minolta SR1 body
you slip it in and the meter wheel has a protusion to catch the shutter speed dial
when fixed, the meter cell will point outwards from the camera body
