That's it bud! I usually use the tripod to shoot still objects. family potraits, potraits of individuals and the odd scenery around. Wan to attempt night shots when I have more time in 2 weeks itme! :D No action shots from tripod though. :)

Well a ball head can be used to shoot static objects as well, I don't see how it is less versatile than a 3 way head. The added advantage is that it can be used to shoot action shots as well. I can't imagine a situation where my model have to wait while i adjust the 3 knobs to get into the right position. Just like you should get a good sturdy tripod, if you ever only use one head, it had to be a ballhead.

heh syncmaster the manfrotto is way overkill for the 2100...
anyway a ballhead is good for minor adjustments too and the best part is u can do all 3 ways at once, just remember to grease(?) the head properly...

LOL how about a following poll? after seeing all the big guns...
"How often do you bring your tripod OUT?"

One camera like the C2100 that haves alot of zoom power needs one good tripod ,even more , than other cameras ..

I have learn all ready how to turn the Manfrotto head in to pieces , and i do plan to replace the grease ,with one more thinner , and by this way i will be more smooth too.

Come on , this looks like as one ironic comment , the point is to have the tripod there ,at the time that you will need it ..
No one walks with a tripod in his back , just because he owns one .. :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

hehe syncM the first webpage I'd read about tripods talked about carrying weight vs lifting weight (local site I think)... he talked about getting the coolest AA mount but in the end leaving it at home because it was too heavy to bring out during shoots... LOL
so I did go to the store to check out the pods too and the manfrotto 190 was like twice as heavy as my olympus video tripod... and w/o the head... hmmm that means I'm not likely to bring that out and take a 2-3 hour night shoot...
but I am wavering cos my SLR with 300 on the oly tripod is wavering too... but as for the 2100 I hadn't encountered any strong winds so far LOL.. thk god for IR too

I will agree that you have a point , but ..

Lets see the all story in detail ..
1)The Manfrotto 190D is one tripod that the weigh of it is 3 kilos with the head , and it is the smallest of the ones that they called as sturdy , so the 3 kilos is the price that some one have to carry ,for having one sturdy tripod ..

2)Is your tripod mobile ?? I do believe that 3 kilos is not that great load , you can easily carry it around for long distances if you use the right way’s , straps or bag .. and its also very easy to carry it on your motorcycle too ..

3)There are and more heavier tripods in the Manfrotto line , and this ones it is really hard to move them around , so the most people that they use them they have a car .

4)Do you need the tripod , or you think that you do ..?? I am not a kid , I do like to have with me something reliable that it will not disappoint me , even at the most difficult situations , I do feel like the soldier with his weapon , if the weapon is good , you do not mind carrying it .

I do understand that in this forums they are many deferent types of people , but we all have something in common , we have pay one small fortune to get one digital camera , that they are more sensitive and fragile than any SLR ..
By my skeptic, I will always do the best that I can do to protect it , at any cost .

I have say even more than what the questions was, but what counts for me above all ,is the sturdy and secure tripod .. :)

We need one vote over the Manfrotto and fast , this tie with the Slik it does effect me with negative waves .. :D :D

Tripods myths...

Manfrotto will rule supreme in CS!!!

A decade ago and even today the clever manufacturer
in Italy has brough admiration from beginners and pro
photographers alike with their huge varieties of designs
and accessories.

Manfrotto is king so they say because they care about
what the photographer will land up with when they
cannot produce a non blurred image.

:bsmilie: :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

From observation for the past 20 years,
they adapt, change and improve on old
design and most important they listen to
photographers.

Most probably we cannot find any tripod manufactuer
that can match them in the area of price, versatility
and mobility.

Here is another crazy user observation:

Any comments from folks who are still not convinced
that Manfrotto has one model for photographers
of all ages from 5-99.
