I got my Hoya 49mm UV from Alan Photo in Sim Lim, cost less than half price of the B+W.

does the Hoya have multi coat? B+W cost $89

I think its the normal one. Anyway the general idea is to protect the lens.

hmmm CP is like that one, they will open the price at 89...then u ask for best press, they press the calculator for a bit, and they will give u a price around 60 smthing.

I think the reason why they didnt tell u abt the tokina is because they are trying to push the sales for the b+w.

anyways, the tokina that i got, is single coated, not multi coat, expect to pay more for multi coated filters.

I just paid $15 for a Tokina AT-X UV filter at MS Colour yesterday.

that is not the correct way to do business :nono: i asked specifically if they have any other 49mm filter and they said no. that is equivalent to lying :thumbsd:

well what i said is an assumption, no accusation, it depends on how u look at it:)

49mm is not a common size nowadays because some brands that used to use the size like Minolta and Olympus, no longer use it, so don't expect shops to stock a lot of it.

JavaBeanz, I don't think it is helpful to accuse anyone of lying because they sell stuff everyday and the item in question may no be in stock all the time.

If you really want Hoya filters for example, you can ask a shop to requisition from the local agent. I did this awhile ago thru T K Photo and it took about 3 days to get some hard to find Hoya filters.

If you want cheap, look thru eBay. Plenty of 49mm filters that are often way cheaper than retail.

Right.. a couple of week ago when I bought my FA50/1.4, I asked for a 49mm filter and they offered me a basic one for $10 but it was out of stock. So they offered me the Tokina AT-X UV filter instead for $18 and so I took it.

Feeling a bit suckered by MS Color now, and I thought they had the best reputation.

Yeah man, my da21 is still filterless after half a year of searching. I did buy a 43mm b+w but somehow the rim was too thick and couldn't fit in.

Just got a 43mm Heliopan, now I my DA21 can use the original lens hood. ;)

Yeah man. The heliopan should be slim enuff to fit in. I once bought a b+w but it was too thick. Please tell me where you got ur Helipan from. Thanks very much!

For all hoya filters, can go look for ruby photo at peninsula plaza. they can help u place an order. Better yet, go to seng cheong at ICB building, along Middle Road - they have / can order the whole range of hoya filters, and will be able to give you a good price since they are wholesalers.

I have some KENKO L37 UV SUPER PRO filters. affordable price and reasonable quality.
