Please do feel free to join us. RF.SG was started out as a gathering for people with interest in RF be it film or digital.
let me stress that you dont have to own a RF to join, as long as you have interest, please do come down, the guys are a bunch of genuine RF fanatics that will be willing to let you molest their gear! Just be careful, when handling their cameras
I believe we had 2 guys who joined us last month for our walk about. They did not have any RF cameras with them but they did get their hands on some of the guys cameras to have a first hand try on RF.
Oh yea, just an update, I've emailed the Sultan Mosque at Arab street about Hari Raya Haji. Requested if we could have permission to enter the mosque grounds to take a look at the sacrifice of lambs on Hari Raya Haji.
So tentively, we shall have RF.SG official outing on the 17th Nov 2011? I'm still awaiting the Sultan Mosque to respond before I provide the timing & dress code for this event. Will keep you guys updated as soon as I have news.
If not, we would stick to the official outing on 20th or 27th Nov with another venue.

Of course let me just confirm with the mosque first.
Any bros here know what time they will conduct the sacrifice of the lambs? So that roughly we can have an estimated time to meet up?
I guess this outing would not be for the faint hearted! ;p

It should be around 9 am, but it differ from mosque to mosque, so it is best to ask the mosque your planning to go to
. But no harm going early!most interesting about shooting at a mosque, many of us grew up near one without being in one...
other places which are considered hardcore:
* the last pig abattoir in singapore
* red light district or orchard tower, animals of a different kind
* hanging out by subordinate courts, lots of drama there
* registrar of marriage, practicing street wedding portraits
joking only... not for the humor impaired.

Never heard of that before! You can go in as long as your respectful, and wear long-pants, but any type of shirt/tshirt can! And remember to take off your shoes when u go in!!!

Yep you can actually. As long as you are in pants its cool. Of course will get funny stares on how come a non muslim is in here... lol!
That is why I chose the Sultan Mosque, tourist go in there all the time, so we wouldnt feel wierd la.
Anyway, I havent gotten a response from the mosque yet.

lol see if u dare to shoot direct at people praying in mosque. i did this in turkey, they just ignore me. i think if we do this in singapore, will get thrown out. apologies to any muslims for my irreverance. If you using RF, can shoot from hip if you can bring inside an RF.

I don't think you will get thrown out, at the mosque next to the tampines sports hall, once in a while ppl with be taking pictures while we are praying and nobody minds! And a RF would be even better, nice and quiet

i appreciate that you have brought up potential issues in the arrangements / venue / etc.
as RWC said, this could be seen as an "educational" visit, to help us understand our muslim friends better. so in the spirit of learning, ask questions. but be careful about making statements, esp if unsure of the facts.

wa serious ah bro???? I stay like 5mins from tampines, one day must go down & shoot man!
Just another update, no response from the mosque. Erm, if I dont get a reply from them at the end of the week, I'll sort us out with something else to shoot on.
I'll keep an eye out for you the next time i go to the mosque ;p. Can molest you m2 also !
gary I just had a word with one of my guys (hes muslim) and he says that everyone is welcome in mosques on hari raya haji and its a good idea at sultan mosque being that there will be loads of tourists and they dont mind a big bunch of photgraphers.
He also mentioned that if we want a more kampong style traditional mosque, there is one in lim chu kang called El Firdaus near the air force base. Apparently the youngsters will chase the goats and when they slaughter they allow the blood to run into the ground...hes done it before and he recommends that it is quite an experience...fyi
