Welcome Royale with Cheese as the next RF.SG Nov outing organizer!

been reading this particular thread with much interest...

not quite sure if the Sultan Mosque will be conducting the Korban (ritual slaughter) this year. I performed my Aidil Adha prayers at the said mosque last year, and i didnt see, smell or hear any sheep at all! (The animals would usually be kept on the mosque's grounds maybe 2 days prior to Hari Raya.)

in any case, i managed to find a list of mosques that should be conducting the Korban. the mosques' address and phone number are listed so you guys could give the mosque admin a call to check ahead. i hope the list will facilitate your choice of mosque, perhaps based on geographical preference. (I suppose the mosques conducting the Korban would have the words "ORDERS CLOSED", next to its name.)

http://meskorban.com.sg/korban/participating-mosques/15/

on the actual day, the Korban should kick off after 9am. aidil adha prayers + sermon will usually be from 8am to 9am. you should be able to enter the mosque's grounds for the Korban, but i would advise you to stay outside the mosque during the prayer+sermon session.

good luck, and have fun shooting!

Hey gossipmonger, thank you so much for your efforts, we really appreciate it! I know its a stretch on hari raya but it would be wonderful if you could join us too, would love to meet you...

Guys a bit more information, my guys father is apparently one of the elders at El Firdaus and he will clear it through his dad about how we can be present (I have volunteered to buy a goat for goodwills sake, this may or may not happen so we'll see what happens) and what we can do....will keep everyone informed as much as I can

chairman dan, it was my pleasure to be of any help to you guys. and thanks for the invite, but i doubt i could join you fellas. in any case, there are 3 mosques within a five min drive from where i'm staying, so i'll probably just pop by at any one of these on the day itself.

i hope you guys seize this opportunity to witness something that is rarely seen these days - the slaughter of animals in public. gone are the days when one could pick a live chicken at a wet market and see it killed right before your very eyes! the AVA has ensured that all our meat and poultry are processed far from sensitive eyes.

Oh sweet! Cant wait!

gossipmonger: Thanks for the link, really helped alot.

Now... 9am you say? heehee...... I'll try to wake up

Just an update, I've just called the Sultan Mosque.

Spoke to the lady on the line, she said it should be fine & the event will take place at 9am after morning prayers.

She said she would get person in charge to call me back.

Sir Dan, any news from yourside?

I would say the Sultan Mosque would be the most centralise place for all but the downside would that, being a tourist attaction, there is going to be a huge crowd there other then muslims devotees themselves.

& having a huge crowd there means, crowd control will be around, we might not get clean shots on how the sacrifice goes.

I would prefer the mosque Dan suggested, its more "secluded", no tourist, so we would have space... We'll see how things go & keep you guys updated!

Gary, no news yet. I do agree with you that sultan mosque is way more central and architecturally more interesting. Al firdaus is a very basic mosque from what I see on google maps so I'll leave the decision in your good hands. Once I receive word I'll update you

Hi Sir Dan, think although Al Firdaus is further away for some but I'm more keen on that place.

Sultan mosque, I forsee, too many tourist, alot of muslims themselves, will have difficulty moving ourselves around. Tourist + muslims gathering to see the sacrifice = RF.SG boys cant shoot anything, unless this weekend all chiong down to chiif to get CV 75mm F1.8 :bsmilie:

Oh well, we'll see how it goes!

OK just got some news, my guys dad has cleared us but we can only be there around 10am. All the kambing have been booked so I cant buy one, I will probably donate something to the mosque when we are there. As a side note: the MP for the district will be there as well.

Gary over to you now....

thanks Dan! Really appreciate your help! Makes this a breeze!

hey guys, please be dressed in covered pants yea? Berms are not allowed in the mosque.

T-shirts should be fine as well, could we have a muslim friend to confirm this.

Will miss this one as I will be overseas. Just want to say thanks to ZoomP and now RWC for all the time and effort put into organising these events. I am sure everyone will enjoy this coming event at the mosque.

Just remember to physically separate the beers from this shooting location. hee.;p

Yup, T-shirts should be fine, and yes jeans/pants, no shorts. I'll do my Eid prayers here then and see you guys after :)
