I think you are wrong. It's your reputation at stake. Since they have no case against you and they continue to spread nasty words. Minimum get them to put up a public apology in the doggies websites or in the paper. Whether you demand $$ compensation, it's up to you. Send them a lawyer letter first and see how they want to response. You must clear you name. That is more important. If you continue to keep quiet, everyone will believe them.
