Weather-proof lenses available?

I would think the omd probably not as wr as the other wr cameras,

Due to the evf and the hotshot area.

Will still take reasonable care when using it in shower,

The hotshot is totally waterproof. U guys think that they will call it wr and let the hotshoe contacts short out in the rain??!

Haha thanks for sharing. Didn't know that but just felt it dont seems so robust hahha

I think they'd rather you use the cover for the hot shoe and accessory port. If it's as well-sealed as the E-1, you shouldn't have to worry. I don't know where my hot shoe cover is but it's been 9 years this month that I've had the camera body and it's still fine.

sad to say, my GH3's viewfinder fogged up after some splash of water in water theme park. The fog disappear after some time but I send it into hospital for a check. Hopefully its a QC issue on the sealing. Else no point calling this system splash proof.

Bro. Read that this happens also to Robin Wong the blogger. When he was reviewing the EM5. Could it be due to sudden cold water on glass in our hot humid weather? Could be some internal condensation. Hope your cam ok after going to hospital. Keep us updated. Really scared to shoot in more than light rain..

it's definitely water drop slip in.. it was blur inside viewfinder and it disappear after some time(clear again). then when I tried using a hair dryer to lightly blow at the viewfinder, the fogging appear again. that's to say there's still water vapour within it and when heated up and hit the dew point, condensation occurs and blur the glass.. the cam is ok still can be used as normal. but I thought its better to send it in for them to check and hopefully, re-seal the ring to make it what they claimed. let's see what they say.

I think this is normal and does not seem to hv any adverse effects. Well, see what they say.

got back my GH3. Was told by Pany service centre that it is normal for fogging to occurs at the viewfinder when there is drastic temperature change, and that will not do damage to the internal parts, and after sometime the fog will disappear. Well, they told me it also happens to some of their compact water-proof model.

Hence, in future, guess i better bring my "old sighted" glass along when I am shooting in water condition so at least if the veiwfinder is fogged, i can still use the LCD.

:(

At least no water damage !! :)

Was looking for a specific tread regarding the OMD- EM5 weather resistance, paired with the 12-50mm. I have a Thailand trip (into the jungles, for my Geography Module) soon and was told wet weather will be very possible. I do not plan to use any rain cover for my setup (though not abusing it) and plan to let it hang beside me while I collect data from soil samples etc, and will be out from day till night probably. Will the weather-resistance withstand the sustained moisture on it? Hoping some guys with experience can share their experience.

Oh by the way, just for fun I did a quick (3-4 sec) dip of my set up into the pool and shot a portrait of my friend underwater (which I also did with my Pentax K-5 and weatherproof kit lens previously). No damage whatsoever, but do so at your own risk!

I do not believe you.

Weather proof is not water proof.

Stop trying to trick some foolish reader from trying out what you described with his equipment.

Yep.. Seen dslrs washed under tap. Used in rain. But underwater, submerged without a housing, that's pure BS..

I've seen them fall into the water and you pull them out immediately and wash them with clear water, but you can't use them underwater for any length of time and hope that they'll work, especially in a pool.

I am giving the benefit of doubt on this statement, for the fact that he mentioned the 3-4 sec time frame in water. the system is designed for weather and splash proof means it should has certain degree of tightness all around to resist water going in (in very short time frame and under slight water pressure)

but for me, it's definitely a "no no" to try my luck.. and I don't think anyone here want to try to just to prove whether the statement is right or wrong.. :)

Its a weather proof camera and so it should not be a problem. I have left it out in the rain and it was fine. The only thing is that you may see EVF fogging. It did not cause any problems as far as I could see. The way I see it is that the EVF is not vacuumed and the cold glass caused the fogging.

Happened to my E5. I fell in the surf with the camera and it was OK. Probably under the surf for about 1-2 seconds. When I got to a tap, I actually rinsed it off with water to remove the salt water. The E5 did not even miss a beat.

Was it just the camera body alone (with body cap). Or the camera+attached lens that was under the surf?

Not all MFT lenses are weather sealed.

Right. My E-1, 14-54mm, and 50-200mm are still working fine after 9 years, despite being out in nearly 130 km/h driven rain.

With the 12-60 lens
