the day when sportsmen turned into mercenaries, the spirit of The Games is lost. its disgusting the way some who wants to win so badly they'll do whatever it takes to win.

national pride :nono: be outsourced. but some just fail to understand that once a price has been put, the value will cease to exist.

So when did it matter to any of you if someone takes up a Singapore citizenship, your opinions do not even matter for the right reasons. It's so funny! :bsmilie:

When I think about these people who come to Singapore to take up citizenship, they remined me of my great grandparents and grandparents who travelled from China to eke out a living in Singapore. So your recent ancestors must have done the same, was it a bad thing?

When I see people who are genuinely good in something that they do, they often get the priviledge of having choices because there will be organisations and what have you dangling some carrot to these people to join them. It happens at schools with people good at particular sports, it happens with people who apply for scholarships, it happens to people who are headhunted at work, everyday. Tell me if this is a bad thing?

mass migrations in the past were due mostly to economic reasons or war (or of similiar nature), for survival.

Mattlock spelt it out very clearly in post #138.

Migration in the current context has it's reasons as well, so many that exists where each and everyone is different. Is there a reason to differentiate reasons form the past with reasosn from now and conclude if one reason is more superior than the other? I think not. If someone wants to migrate, it is their perogative.

for a hot potato topic. i have to accept the fact others think differently. sometimes i may never see eye2eye that other person neither can he/she.

as a nation, a medal is won, but the glory of it is not.

OT liao...

I agree.
Never argued about that.

There are some things money can't buy afterall. Who cares who wins anyway. I felt Korea should have been in the finals. I think they will put up a better showmanship and professionalism in the sport.

If I am not wrong, one of their players took up Korea citizenship.

And what do you mean by better professionalism or showmanship?

Who cares if she is full/original/authentic 100% Korean or not. Its the fighting spirit and the game that matters. I felt the Korean team were much better sportsmen and more entertaining to watch. The Singaporean team were just plain boring and totally no match for the China team. If they (Singapore team) knew they were going to loose, at least, put up a good fight la. Wasted 2 hours of my life watching some players play for the sake of playing.

I thought our singles, Feng Tianwei and Li Jiawei was pretty good against the chinese.

It is just that the chinese are REALLY better, especially Zhang Yining. I thought Li Jiawei played better in the finals than the semi finals.

Another way to look at it is the FT who leave are usually the 2nd tier FTs. By going to another country, they become 1st tier in that country. By staying in their own country, they remain 2nd tier.

As a 1st tier in a foreign country, they will get to represent the country in games. As a 2nd tier in their home country, they will always be second choice when it comes to representing the home country.

Guess which one would rather be?

LOL... I strongly agree with you... people send their Tier 2 FT to sg... So hor, I also come to US to be FT.... fair and square... someone's trash is somebody's treasure... :bsmilie:

There is some free and not so free flow of talents, goods, service, information etc in many parts of the world.

This is what makes the world go round.

This is also a broader sense of the classical economic theory of the perfect market of supply and demand.

There are only a few restriction to this free flow, like military goods, like pornography, harmful stuff like drugs etc.

Please dun forget that even some of our MPs are not born in Singapore.

Yup, except that when these things flow around, no one says that they are representative of the country they end up in.

Look at it this way. I can get a 2nd hand lens from a fellow CSers at a discount from the prices at the shops. And I can also sell away a lens to upgrade.....

And I do treasure the 2nd hand lens after getting it.

As for FT, they are groomed to do it and that takes lots of resources and effort.

A very good read, regardless if you are pro or againts FT in sports.

if our economy is so open den organ trading, renting another's womb, a country's security can oso be outsourced le lor. since $$ can make the world go round.

with $$$ making the world go round how can anything be harmful? $$ in exchange for goods or services. win-win situation wad. why restrict anything?

where/wad will such mentality lead to?
