Here's more bokeh, not bad for 7 straight blades.

just to clear up a common misconception.. out of focus rendition is more a function of optical design than aperture blades; how smooth or nervous it is depends more on how optical engineers designed the lens to perform (correction of spherical abberation for example). the rounded blades simply help to keep point sources of light circular when you stop down. in this case since it was shot wide open there'd be no difference between 2 and 200 blades =) but yes, the lens isn't too shabby in this regard. have fun!

Actually my experience with the 50mm f2 is vastly different from you. The contrast is very very high wide open, even better than a lot of modern lenses with their special nano coat and ED elements. I've used over 30+ different MF/AF lenses and my copy of the 50mm f2 just beats most of them. Sometimes I had to dial down the in camera contrast to retain fine details. I donno how to explain it, but will post some pictures in the future to show it. Spherical aberration is minimal compared to my 50mm f1.8 AFD, and colour fringing too. Only downside is that the bokeh is ugly. But IMO it has a very distinctive character, something that most SLR lenses lack unlike rangefinder glasses, and I can spot a photo taken with the lens very easily. I call it the Nikkor 50 summicron. ;p

I double that. It's really a fantastic lens

Will share some of my night street photos taken last night with the 180mm tonight when I get home. Had a copy of the 180mm about 2 years ago when I first started out MF, was my 2nd lens after the 75-150mm E. However I did not use it much as I found it heavy and did not really use it. It was until I realised it was way smaller compared to my 80-200 AFD (which I gotten later) that i started to look for another copy of the 180. And now I'm in love with this lens haha.

I double that. It's really a fantastic lens

It depends on how you develop it, using Xtol will give even better results but I still prefer the convenience of HC-110.

You can get them cheap here, they are rebranded Tri-X.
