Hi all, hope I’m not too late to share some photos haha. Hope you guys enjoy them. :) Most photos are shot on D300s, with a couple on my F3HP.

The 20mm f4's really tiny and handy, even smaller than my 50mm f2 AI. Quite rare, have only seen a couple on sale at BnS. Even if it may not be as good optically as the newer AFS lenses, its way way way more portable than those 1kg plus zooms.

Next up, my series of 28mm lenses. Have used 4 different 28mm lenses over 2 years, namely the f2.8 AIS, f2 AI, f2 AIS and the f2.8 series E. The series E is the worst lens out of the lot, with vignette so bad that it can been seen on DX, and very soft corners. The others are quite capable performers. IMO the prices of all the AI/AIS versions have gone up so much that it might be worth it to get the AFS 28mm f1.8 instead.

The 35mm f1.4 AIS lens has some special character, but its soft until f2.8, especially in the corners. Older versions seems to be even softer.I admit that I did not "learn" this lens to its maximum potential, but initial impression is pretty good. Good for portraits surprisingly, got a kind of 3D rendering. Don't like its bokeh though, find it to be too busy with a tinge of double image. The f2 version seems better in the bokeh department, but still, soft wide open. For DX users, the 35mm f1.8 AFS DX is a great choice, slightly more expensive, but better sharpness wide open. Pictorial rendering is not as classical though.

Out of the various 50mm Nikkors I've used, the one I liked most is the 50mm f2 AI version. Probably one of the most contrasty lens wide open, sharpness is good too, better than the f1.8 AFD version, with much less blooming along high contrast edge too. The 50mm f1.2 is magical at f2, gives a very 3D pop to the subject. Have not used zeiss glasses, so can't compare there. Wide open, not so great, but passable. But to me, to use a f1.2 lens at f2 is a waste. Bokeh for both lens are not that smooth, especially compared to leica and voigtlander glasses I've used in the past.

Ok last post for the day, the nikkor 55mm f3.5 AI macro lens. I really liked this lens, really regretted selling it. Love it for being small and compact. Sharpness compared to the 60mm f2.8 AFS N seems slightly inferior though. Prices have been steadily climbing, up to the point that I don think its worth it to get it anytime soon. Will post photos from the other focal lenghts later, from 85mm-180mm.

This thread is very encouraging. I am motivated to keep my really old manual lenses to be used even on my new D800. My lenses are so old that they are even before AI came along. I just did my own very rough or crude modifications for them to work on the present day cameras. No refinements as I intend to keep these lenses for good, especially after going through this thread. On top of which the MF lenses that I have, 20mmF4, 50mmF2 HC and the ever popular 105mmF2.5 are sharp and produce very good resolution.

Here's a candid shot which I took yesterday afternoon, about 7 metres away, with my 105mmF2.5:

This is my first time posting an image. If it works out nicely I'll share some more.

Why no picture? Is it because I "may not post attachments?"
