Nikkor AF 50mm F1.8D on D5000

Just bought these lens yesterday, didn't realise they couldn't autofocus on my D5000, but manual focus is seriously starting to grow on me, I think I'm slowly falling in love x)

I love my manual lenses - 24mm, 50mm and 105mm. Somehow you have more control of what you shoot and it's a great rewarding feeling when you get your photos right.

Here is a shot of a flower in Cameron Highlands using my 105mm f2.5 AIS.

This a shot of the first of the 2 daughters of the lady owner of Lord's Cafe on the same Cameron Highlands trip. My 50mm f1.2 AIS.

The lighting in the room was a challenge to focus and get right. I wanted the natural look so no flash.

The AF-D 50mm f/1.8 doesn't have a nice focusing feel when manually focusing. Pick up a cheap 50mm f/1.8 AIS lens and you'll fall in love instantly with the smooth, well-damped focus feel. ;)

Woah thanks for the heads up (:

If you can't AF with the D lens, you won't have metering with the Ai lens.

I have read the whole 48pages of this thread. Got poisoined lol! I heard that these manual lenses are great in video making. anybody here using these lenses for vid? I'm saving for 28 f2 ais, 50 f1.4 ais and 85 f2 ais.

they are good for video, and its not difficult to 'de click' them either. you may want to look at the earlier Nikkor H 85/1.8. its a better lens than the 85/2.

ok bro, thanks. what do you mean 'de click' them? I have zero knowledge when it comes to these. I will definitely look into your recommendation of Nikkor H 85/1.8. Thanks again!

for video you usually want to remove the click stop in the aperture ring so you can adjust the aperture smoothly instead of in steps. nikkor lenses use a spring rather than ball bearings to do this so its very easy to do it yourself. if you re doing video on DX, look out for the nikkor O.C. 35/2

the h, o, c lenses are usually non-ai lenses. however, a number of them have also been converted to ai. so you might want to lookout and make sure that you get an ai'd version. they all are beautiful lenses to shoot with

Last time when I only have the D90, I dare not consider lenses that can't meter with the cam.

I just want to let newbies know that it's ok, just guess the shutter speed and check your LCD for the exposure and adjust the shutter speed accordingly. It's pretty easy.

will be heading down to HK in 2 weeks time and this is my first time there..

Stanley Road. Champagne Court building. Also try to go to www.hklfc.com website. Some nice lenses pop up once awhile.

Also can try Sim City at Mongkok. Some shops inside sell various legacy lenses.
