We love our manual focus Nikkor lenses!

Nice work!! 600mm should cost u a bomb.. :)

It is an old MF 600mm f5.6, was not as crazy as an AFS version. Anyhow i got it for the reach to try last time.
Very underutilised, might just bring along to iceland later this yr to abuse abit more ..

Wow nice shot! Makes me want to get a 600mm :D

thx greengoblin!

Not the AIS version??

It is the ais version Nikkor 600mm f/5.6 ED-IF

Here goes another with 2x TC, similar to the prev moon shot.

Ryan: You've got great photos with the 600 :)
That's still a 2.7 / 2.8kg lens to lug out to iceland!
I can imagine it still must have been some feat to mf with that on a d80
We're all blessed with larger, brighter viewfinders on the newer cams
Do you still have nikon cameras or will be using an adapter with your canon?

I've bought a D700 recently and now thinking to get either a AIS 35mm f1.4 or 50mm f1.2 in the near future.

I've got the 50 f1.8 already so I'm leaning more towards the 35mm.

Which one is more magical? lol

How you define magical? More artistic? Or more exotic glasses? :)

I think you can try the AIS 50 1.2, at 1.2 its quite a different thing. If you want unique renderings can try the 5.8cm f1.4 Pre AI or the 105 f2.5 Sonnar, not the later double gauss version (AI/AIS). If you got the cash to spare, theres always the Noct-Nikkor...

Just join Nikkor manual lens, only have one 35mm F2 Ais now.

I'm just joking about the magical part.

I'm aiming for the 35mm f1.4 AIS lens but also depends on which one is available when I'm ready to buy.

Nikkor 5.8cm f/1.4

its got a very nice 'glow' to it due to internal flare, but it gets excessive wide open. i find that f2 seems to be the best balance between flare, sharpness and contrast. f/4 and above looks normal, 1.4 must be used quite carefully.

I find the colours are surprisingly life like. and CA is almost non existant! no LOCA either which is pretty cool... here's an interesting read comparing the 5.8cm 1.4 with the AF-S 50 1.4

Bumping up the thread

Another old shot at Sungei Buloh
D80, my old AIS 600mm f5.6 with 1.4x TC

I think I will have loads of fun lugging this fella to shoot landscapes in my next trip

My friend tried his hand at cleaning my 50mm f/1.8 AIS
As always, stuff's easy to dismantle
Putting them back together is the hard part
Let's just say that we made no headway even after googling for pictorial tutorials
And now it's loose as a goose, with what I suspect, a hint of softness at infinity
Though he claims there's none to be seen here

Could have sworn it looked like this in the VF :D
