We love our manual focus Nikkor lenses! Part 2

yeah, the wide open of 1.2 is always poisonous and nice !

True but when you nailed it the feeling is a million bucks haha.

personally I prefer a DOF which is sufficient to encompass both pupils of the subjects eyes...else too thin, one eye blur...feels weird.

Hi mw1986, may I know where do you get your Tri-X developed and printed?

I have been asking around down town and I still cant a shop that provides developing of Tri-X and printing of B&W negatives.

Thanks.

Moonshot. I shot this using my friend's Nikkor MF 500mm f/4P on the 23rd July 2013. Used with a 1.6x teleconverter (TC16) in full manual mode.

Agreed, the 500mm f/4 Ai-P is a sweet lens. I'm not letting go of mine.

With the TC-16A 1.6x teleconverter:

Those are some mighty good bird shots, kcchew :). I especially like the 2nd one!

Thanks. Birding is not easy with a manual focus lens, but that million-dollar feeling when you nail the shot is just wonderful.

I am looking to get the 300 mm f4.5 ais w my D800. Does anyone has experience on this? If so, care to share?

I owned this lens wa..a..ay back in the late 80's (ED version). Can't say I was that impressed with it. Later, I upgraded to the AF300 f/4IF-ED. Much better image quality but autofocus was a bit slow (screw drive). Optically very good though....

In celebration of older Nikkors: My Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/4. Old, battered and bruised (jus' like me) but still delivering the goods ;)

Nice lens; really love that look :D.

I had never owned any MF 105mm Micro-Nikkors, but do have an MF 55mm f/2.8 AiS micro-Nikkor.

But those Micro-Nikkors I use a lot are the AFD types, as I can't MF underwater (no gear link to do that), and the lower contrast underwater makes the AFS lenses go pass the critical focus point... :( With AFD I can tap-tap AF, nudge it near and nudge it again to get proper focus.

Thanks for the info. Yeah, I had the AF 300 F4. It's sharp and fantastic.

Was hoping to test the 300 mm AIS w D800.

AF Speed is lesser concern so switching all to manual lenses. Haha

Love the 55mm f2.8. On most days, it makes an awesome walkabout lens. Love pairing it up with the 24mm f2.8. However, these days, mine is paired up with the Olympus EPL5. Makes a lovely macro combination and it's a nice 110mm
