Today i managed to try Nikkor 43 - 86 mm and 36-72 mm. I would say that they work very well as video lenses but falls short of photographic lenses. The lenses are good by today's standard but soft and blurry for pictures. I think the coatings or CA may make it so.

They are excellent as video lenses as the one touch offering of zoom and focus allows more variety in DSLR filming.

Just using my gut sense to test the lenses. Nothing scientific

1) Nikon E Series Lenses - 36-72 mm F3.5s - Nikon Series E lenses - the Zoom lenses
2) Nikkor MF Zoom - 43 - 86 F3.5 - MF Zoom-Nikkor 43-86mm f/3.5 Part I/2

Not sure about the 36-72, but the 43-86 has 2 versions. It seems late model with longer serial number and newer design is better. I have the last version and it worked well as DX lens. Not sure about FX and high resolution. And maybe my standard lower also.

finally managed to replace my dead D700 ^^ here are 2 from this evening from the 24/2.8 Ais, both wide open. sadly, i use alot of non-nikkor manual focus lenses now so less to contribute ><

what's left in your dry cabinet after selling off so many redundant lenses? :)

well.. i convert lenses from other mounts to nikon for my own use. some of them are really good and i use them instead of the nikkors >< for now i have some konica hexanons, a fujinon, a couple c/y CZs and tokinas. the 24/2.8 ais and nikkor s 5cm f2 are really hard to beat though, so i keep them around.

using the 50 1.4 pre AI as manual focus in mini studio.

Focusing is a chore as the DOF is very thin at f/1.2. Takes patience to nail the focus.[/QUOTE said:
True but when you nailed it the feeling is a million bucks haha.
