Legionnaire is just making fun of camerax. Not terribly funny as a satire, IMO. He should have used a way more absurd example. But whatever. This is not a forum or even thread on creative writing.

Dear All,

I would like to highlight a point to ALL those here claiming that they are being ripped off by these shops.

The LAW is:

We, as consumers, OFFER to purchase from the shops. So long as the shop did not FORCE you to purchase, otherwise you cannot leave the shop, they have every right to sell the items in their shop at a certain price, as these items are not controlled price items (eg, cigarettes).

If the shop is selling a filter at $35, they did not FORCE you to buy.

Mustafa placing the batteries near the cashier and indicated the price $2.50, they did not say you MUST buy.

Same things goes for The Pantene shampoo for $7.85

Another examples, a 3Rm flat at Commonwealth is selling at $140K, where a 3Rm flat at Circuit Road selling at $120K. After you choose the location and bought the one at Commonwealth at $140K, are you going to say that the seller at Commonwealth has ripped you?

Therefore, I should say that it is unfair to post comments that the shops above "ripped", "con people" , or to call them maggots as it's up to you to do a survey on the price before choosing to buy from the shop.

I learnt this in SLQ years ago where I purchased a pack of 10 CDs and the price difference from a shop on 4F and 6F is about $3. Just walk a few more shops and you saved $3.

I'd give him a B for effort though.

Agreed. People need to stop bitching, especially if it's only a couple of dollars, and get on with their lives.

And people like me need to stop reading threads like this and get on with my life.

camerax, good that you got a good price for your camera. But honestly, nobody (least of all the Parissilk staff) are forcing or pressuring you to buy any of the accessories, filters, etc.

They offered you a price for the items and you agreed to pay for it and now you're bitching here on the forum that you got ripped off??? And now you're making an allegation that they are selling refurbished item???

OK you paid a little more but do you need to be a sour grape over the matter? Were you cheated? No, right? Can't you admit you made a mistake by not doing your research. Take it as a learning experience and move on.

Okay, about refurbished item. first of all, i was asking if they do sell refurbished item cause i am not sure. I am not making any allegation toward parisilk.

i admit that i didnt do my research (thats because i trusted my dumb friend who actually dont know nothin about filter) and parisilk just caught in the perfect time there.

i am not trying to talk **** about them, just wanna warn people here. JUST GET THE CAMERA AND GET the hell out. otherwise , you would end up like me.

and so you are implying that they always sell "NEW ITEM". have you bought from them??

one more thing, for people who defend parisilk. Its ok. i got yall point of views. but what makes them different compared to the stores in SIMLim square??

lot of people complain about sls. Well why dont you do it toward parisilk then. Just curious. i am not trying to argue here.

I started this thread with good intention to get people out of trouble. and dont end up like me.

Many say good or bad experiences with a shop, but I usually take them quite lightly. What I do is to take these comments, go to shops when I'm in the vicinity and if I'm happy with them, I will buy from them.

In many stores, MS Colour, Alan Photo, Cathay Photo, I patronize most of them and bought one or more items from them. I even bought my previous 400D from Song Brothers. I didn't get ripped off in terms of accessories, but perhaps in some situations pay a little more for my camera bodies / lenses.

Yet, Parisilk is one that I usually go. They offer reasonable prices, reasonable services and don't really force the issue to you. In fact, I'm in favour of buying my 5D from Parisilk or OP.

My advice is do your own homework, have your own opinions, and not be too blinded by what everyone says. There are 10 people who may say XXX store is good, but there are 100 people out there who did not say so. Similar, it can be otherwise.

OKAY, leave my issues aside.

I WANNA KNOW NOW. WHICH store in singapore that actually USED stuff or refurbished item , but claiming it as new???

I assume stores in SLS will do so. am i correct here?

So far .... either directly or indirectly you have
blamed the shop
blamed the salesperson
blamed your friend
blamed CS and its members for recommending the shop
blamed CS and its members for not classifying the shop together with other nasty shops

and now you are
using capital letters saying "I WANNA KNOW NOW." (Do u know what capital letters mean in electronic communication ? )
asking CS members to either speculate of reveal shops which sells refurbished goods as new ? (No smart CS member is going to speculate or even reveal in a forum as if proven wrong, this could have legal repercussions. )

I suggest you cool down and re-evaluate your tone and the manner in which you are pursuing this matter in the CS forum. Also, suggest that you re-examine the circumstances leading to this unfortunate incident and learn from it in your future intended purchases.

..

Eh.. I think you got a one-off bad deal la. My family and I have been going to Parisilk for... 18 years already. I got a D40 and a filter from them too. They charged me $15 for it.

I think it's just about different prices for regulars, and that's the same across all the shops, even institutional shops like Cathay, but I'm only guessing.

Different shops have different marketing and pricing strategy. They might sell cheap on some and to recover the shortfalls from others. At least we know which shops are practising this.

Do your home work, buy those offer good bargain and no impulse buying, be a smart consumer, else you will end up paying more. My 2 cents.

Just now I went toilet. The auntie charged me 20 cents. I then came out and saw that she charged another guy 10 cents. I SUPER PISSED!

I want to complain to CASE!

Parisilk have always been great to me and many people I know. Im sorry to hear about this, maybe if you go back and ask them about this they might help you out. This posts ranting about it solves nothing. Parisilk are a very reputable company and im sure they would be more than happy to talk to you about this.

ohhh..every alternate week there is people saying they get cheated...Please learn from each other on the forum.....

Hi Threadstarter,

I had similar experience with you. Almost the same. I bought my 40D from Kevin. Along, naturally, i also bought the filter when he asked if I want. Similarly in your case, the filter is $15 more than normal market price. I was very angry at that time, but i had to only say, they can rip you off cause you did not do your market research. And there is no one to blame. I got a good price for my 40D, but i was way to impulsive to totally believe him and also get the filter. End of the day, you can't blame them, it's us that has not did our homework.

Also, think in this way, each shop can have their set of cheap items, but most of the time not all. You just need to find out which shop's price is good at which items. I believe Parisilk charges their filters at a standard higher price. Upon knowing this, we should no longer patronize them for the same items. Instead, buy what is their "strong" at.

Honestly, I only frequent 1 shop now and that is TK. Jame's has always given me consistent pricing. MS, a little "slippery" at times (for me). Mustafa's price is already a cut above, not considerable. As for John, price may be just a tad high, but service is not questionable. You balance the kind you like yourself and build rapport with the shopkeepers yourself and you will find the most suitable for yourself.

Don't blame parisilk for the extra amount spent, blame ourselves for not doing our own homework. You have to be fair to acknowledge that they do not push or promote out of their way to sell you stuffs - and that is already quite a virtue in singapore.

Disclaimer: True story and please do not think i am representative from any shop.
GUYS, i just wanna review this store as not many people know this store.

i just bought nikon d40 from parisilk as lot of people recommend this store to me via forum.

I went to many stores before and finally i bought mine in parisilk.

okay, here what i wanna say:

1) their price is cheap (cheaper than the one in mustafa) and competing with AP, CATHAY PHOTO, etc.

okay, so whats the problem??

THE PROBLEM IS THAT THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF ON THE ACCESSORIES LIKE BAG, FILTER, TRIPOD, ETC.

there are many stores in singapore that do this trick. they let you have the camera for a very reasonable price (NOT CHEAP), just reasonable. and will crush you hard when you buy accessories from them. BEWARE. PARISILK IS ONE OF THEM.

i went to the branch in holland village, the indian guy who served me offered nikon d40 for 753 sing dollars and okay its cool. but then he offered me the bag for 58 dollars (you can get it for less than 30 bucks somewhere else). and UV fILter 52mm tokina for 30 bucks (even harvey normal sold it for like 15 and other stores will sell it as cheap as 10).

i bought the filter as i really want to keep my camera clean and fortunately i skipped on the bag since i dont like the one he offered. I got super pissed to be fooled by these maggots. now, i am wondering if they sell me REFURBISHED CAMERA, but i dont think so since parisilk is authorized nikon dealer. but can anyone confirm on this???

IF i got the bag and tripod, i would have paid them close to 900 bucks.

i just wanna get this info out since i dont want anybody to experience the same thing.

these are the tips when you wanna shop camera in singapore:
1) RESEARCH THE PRICE. i know you want the camera so bad, but you can still get it tomorrow. research the price first, COMPARE the price among stores.

2) go to trustworthy and reliable store like authorized dealer of a particular brand. i think its more safe that way.

3) NEVER go to simlim square. a guy from store in the 1st floor almost sold me refurbished item for a super low price. basically, SLS is the last place you wanna visit. there is nothing but bunch of dishonest guys.

some people may told you to ALAN PHOTO, but i cant tell you about them since i havent dealt with them.

4) its OKAY to pay more for good service and security in singapore. I would recommend go to mustafa. i know they dont offer you the best price but you can rest assured that they wont sell you grey set or rip you off on the accessories or lure you into buying craps that you dont even need.

Also, the price is fixed so you wont have to bargain (it saves your time).

there is another store called john 3:16, and lot of people tell me that they are very reliable and give you an impeccable service. i went there but unfortunately they dont have d40. so i wont make any further comment about john 3:16.

However, if it was true that they can give me a good service, I would buy lens one day from them.
i wouldnt mind pay extra money for good service and security which i find very hard to get in singapore.

I hope the info that i shared today can be useful to everyone of you guys.

Price discrimination is not uncommon and is practiced everywhere.

As pointed out by members here that the same item are sold at different prices by different shops and even within the same shopping complex.

An example, a Coke Zero is sold for 0.80 cents at the minimart below my estate. Whereas the 7 eleven store at my in-law place is selling it for $1.40 and at the patrol kiosk it is selling for $1.20.

So do we start calling them rip off? or maggots?

Also as pointed out by some members that every retailers have their own pricing strategies on selling some items cheaper while marking up on others. These are never consider cheating neither do they forced you into buying them.

My point here is simple, please observe Clubsnap Term of Use as seen here: http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=63954 especially #1 where name calling is not allowed. In this instance calling the retailer here "maggots" is certainly uncalled for and hence I am giving you an infraction. Please do not do it again.

I am also closing this thread as it has served its purpose as stated by the TS.
