actually I have had another experience with a shop in peninsula also. not to mention names but it's near the escalator with another shop in funan (it's got the word "digi" in it)

I was starting out in photography and under my friend's advise I was there to get a lens tube adaptor and UV filter for my fuji. So my friend told me to just get a cheap cheap HOYA HMC or super HMC (commonly called super-mulitcoat). The sales people in there just quote an exorbitant price for the HMC filter. Then I ask about super HMC.. I was being made a fool of.. They were saying "where got such thing as super HMC. You got study before one right? go read the package on the box (of the HMC) see got such thing a not" :angry:

Then swallowing my pride cos I'm still green.. I asked if it can be any cheaper (he quoted me something like 30-40). He say it's already the cheapest.. then say.. you want cheap ah.. take this lor.. he gave me an uncoated filter and quoted me $20. What the.. i left that shop.. went diagonally to konota.. ask "Old Uncle" (who move to TCW, i think) about filters.. and got my HOYA super-HMC at $18 :bigeyes: just for curiosity.. i asked..

"uncoated how much ah?"

"$8"... :think:

also.. i bought my silica gel from him also.. $3 only

If I were you, I would have told the salesman this "Super HMC you also dunno??? Still dare to come here and make a fool of yourself? Hello friend, how long you into photography ah? Still green-horn ah? When I take photo, maybe you still sucking milk ah!!!"

you never know such shops are opened to wash black cash, if you know what i mean.

perhaps a general rule of thumb .. patronise shops with staff who have a genuine interest or knowledge in photography. i don't mind paying slightly higher to go to a reputed shop, than tolerate non-service, whose staff just sell for the sake of opening a shop ... if you also know what i mean.

I went in before asking for battery for my Canon camera....he quote almost double the price....I told him the price of other shop..then he reduce a bit....
I said never mind and walked out......then he loud loud said what price I want and then quoted a price much lower then other shops....I turn back into his shop...and then he said only if I buy 20 or 30 piece.....almost want to give him the middle finger......luck did not...otherwise....I end up getting punched also..... :sweat:

There are many shops like this one in Singapore.
Actually this shop is the clone of another in Peoples' Park Centre and Complex....owned by the same boss.
The sales staff are rotated between these shops ..especially when one location gets too "hot" for a salesman.
Meaning the person is involved in a quarrel or something more serious with customers.
Have actually seen these people fighting with customers...
....even among themselves
So the baseline is know the product one is going to buy and check out with knowledgable friends before embarking in the buying trip to avoid unscrupulous
shops
....if no friends have good advise about the particular product you want...just go to well known shops...maybe pay more...maybe not...but the diff will not be excessive.

yah yah.. i had one too.. its the one facing ruby... i only asked how much is a slave flash and she 'enthusically' went to another shop to take... i already told her no need liao... yet she just run off... i waited and waited... till i cannot take it liao.. and also i know if now she comes back and i dun want it, she will scold me so i told another guy there i need to go off... but he kept on asking me to wait... i told him my friend is here already.. and i really need to go off... but he just ask me to wait.. i continue to say i really really need to go liao... then just then, the lady came back... then i ask her how much and she said its $50!!!!!! knowing its overpriced i said i really really need to go liao... but she ask me to quote her a price... she will match it... i told her i really really need to go.. i told her i will (with finger crossed) come back.. then she like 'wah lao.. i go alll the way to get it for you and now you dowan it... ' i wanted to tell her that i told her not to go and get it liao.. but i have to act urgent... so i said 'i really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really need to go... and just left... the other ah beng that was in the shop came out of the shop to see if i really meeting any one...

this shop i went in to ask about flash... then he show me two flash one is abt 40 and another is abt 70++.. then he ask me how?? then i say i need to go back and think about it... then he snorted and continue reading his newspaper... after a while he said 'how give you for 20 you want?'' being naive i thot i had gotten a good deal but actually he was being sacarstic as he followed by a ' i give you any price you also need to think abt it what.. i give you free you also must go back think abt it right.. then go la go lah....."...

If u notice there are quite alot of shops in singapore are making a living from those foreigners or pple who r too bz to shop around... which is why first quote from them r always higher than market rate n hoping the buyer would just take it n go... probably in the past, e way they do business may work... but nowadays even the caucasians from US or european countries also know about hard bargaining in asia countries is a NEED... even money laundering may not be able to help them continue the business if they don't change

YUP~!!..it is the plump and chubby guy..looks like maybe mid or late 20s onli..nt wearing specs one...

at first I ask him at the door, he like very "friendly" den go help me check price...went to the another shop beside his to check...after I say I dun wan to buy liao den he turn nasty... :bigeyes: ....kaoz~!...

Actually I even saw a customer being punched there on the nose, a bit bloody. The police were called in. Even the CP staff (the main shop) all went out to see show just opposite.

I was there that time too, saw him sitting at the bench near World Camera.
I think the customer is a China tourist, the police was call in and was looking for the guy from the shiop.
Buy dun know what happen next.

ya I know he was just being sacarstic...tink if I actually have taken the gel from him, he would have chase me and beat me up liao lor... :sweat:

Actually I told another frenz abt this incident this morn, den he told me tat his frenz actually wk part time b4 at one of the shops in peninsula...and the boss actually ask my frenz's frenz to always try to "chop" those foreigners etc...in the end he wk awhile den quit liao...dun understand hw this shops can always do such a thing and always get away with it....

well...AP and song usaually quote cheaper price than most mah...although their service nt tat fantastic....but with their low price, sure got ppl will go there one...

i think maybe depends on ur attitude towards them.

i went to cp for a lowepro toploader and they don't have black colour.
So i went opposite to that supposed "shop" and saw it.
I asked how much and they quote me around $10 higher than CP.
i say thank you and walk out and the guy ask me how much i offer,i told him my situation and how much CP is selling and in the end he sold me at the CP price.

So i guess it all boil down to attitude.
Imagine you are the sales person and the guy give a f*** face and walk away, sure i also buay song feel like punch him.

I guess in the end i happy i bought the bag and he got a deal too.

oh well..even if the customer gif u black face or wat u also cant just scold ppl like tat mah...if u nt happy at least wait till the customer left liao den KP wif ur colleagues or wat.. :bsmilie:

But from all the responses, seem like this shop realli got prob leh...but good for you tat u manage to get a reasonable price for ur pouch.. :thumbsup: .. but for me, doubt I will ever step into tat shop again liao... :nono:

you are talking abt the shop opp prime, i seen a PRC man calling ppl on this hand phone infornt of their shop, stating he kenna punch form the salesman inside.

They even exchange words and the salesman wanted to give the customer another beating, while the customer was threatening to call the police, so drama.

these people must know they are rewarding bad service and bad attitude. like spam, it will never go away until people stop patronising it..
