This thread is foolish to the extreme. I don't care if my camera is a leica, or a nikon, or whatever ding dong made in africa.

I have a camera. It allows me to take pictures that I want. A lens that provides me oppurtunities and effects to control my picture.

Silent shutter? I don't give a damn, as long I can take pictures without worrying about the camera limitations.

I simply get the best instruments for the job I do, which is documentry photography. I have a leica because it's reliable (and I use it during monsoons thru hot weather thru cold drops in temperature). Other affections such as mechanical perfection, silent shutter, hot lens and bla bla bla is only superficial.

The camera can get you the pictures you want? In your price range? Just get it. You can always get another camera you want when you earn enough.

In my opinion, there is no need to discuss a leica council or even an outing, nor is there a need to talk about old men in the kopitiam or how the nikon s2 trashes a leica and that trashes a canon.

It is all. Utter. Rubbish.

I believe in the pictures you all take. Not your instruments. Or your mutterings on lens, crap jokes and all.

Show us the pictures. You are the leica, not that metal piece you;re holding.
This diatribe is directed to me to anyway.

Btw, stereobox, long time no see...
catch up with ya sometime

hey bro...long time no see eh, heheh. of all threads...fancy bumping into you here :bsmilie:

anyway, i believe xxxboy has partly his tongue in his cheek when he proposed the creation of this...'council' ...

even if this ...rangefinder-camera user-group is actually formed..hopefully it will generate awareness among new hobbyists. cameras are not only about D-SLRs etc.

Hello, I welcome all Rangefinder and Compact user to this council, read my post carefully!!!

I meant the tirrade of commentry that is practically useless in regards to
this thread.

However, no I don't support the idea of a leica council. A rangefinder/compact is just fine... however the idea of using a brand name is
simply endorsement to me. It implies to me that I'll be seeing another ton of buggers wandering around orchard or city hall walking blissfully around with mint m's and taking picture of...an old man digging his nose is a good example.

And posting it on clubsnap and asking what the rest think...

Wait a minute, there's nothing wrong with that. Maybe I'm just being a little antangonistic. Jus' kidding..go ahead and take pictures of old men digging noses. I'll slap myself on the face with this one *piak*.

But the fact is, while there is nothing wrong with the word itself, the title just invites such useless and blatant infirmary which I felt has nothing to do with the fact about taking wow moments and putting them on coloured dyes or silver gelatins. It occured on other photo forums to a tiresome repeated degree. If so, I take this whole lot of words..and simply say...rubbish.

We might just as well start the film and digital argument again.

But that's just me and my opinion . I tend to take photography as a craft..not a past time. But that doesn't excuse me from snapshots and crapshots ;). (P.S as long I (try) not to show them..)

Please note that from now onwards, we advocate the use of "User Groups" as the preferred term for such informal gatherings.

This is to prevent mis-communication and mis-construed usage of the word "Council".

Thanks for everyone's understanding.

I have handled a Leica M6 before and I agree that it is a great tool! I think what is more important are the subject and the photographer. So long the tool is suitable to the type of photography and is able to produce high quality images it is alright with me. A great photographer could take fantastic photos with a P&S. A talentless one could not do that even with a Leica. ;p

Most who ever bought one rarely relinquish the whole system after that.

Got rid of my Canon FDs, Contax manual focus, but some how could never let the Leitz glass go! Before any flaming start, I do use other brands together with the Leica. it just a different tool for a different purpose.
