Hi Billy,

If you tonemapping with single RAW file, you will experimenting more noise.

Thus, there is couple of way to reduce it:

1. ISO 100 (the usual..) and use bracketing shooting. Say +/- 1 or 2, depends on your preference.

2. With single RAW file, use VERY HIGH Light Smoothing, set Micro Smoothing to higher than 5. The higher better to smoothen noise but trade off is the image looks flatten.

3. Or can use Noise reduction s/w at later stage after you complete tonemapping and fine tweakin at PS.

Re-visited Upper Pierce Reservoir over the weekend to capture more series of sunset.

A HDR image, tone-mapped in CS4 Photomatix plugin with AEB of +/-2.

A massive HDR vertorama consist of x3 images with AEB +/-2 manually stitch together to form this massive image.

Tonemapping were done with Photomatix plugin in CS4 with later further enhancement of Curve, Level, Color Balance, Saturation, Vibrance, USM and Noise Reduction at later stage.

Appreciate if there is comment on this first HDR vertorama tryout.

Question:

Should I crop off the small yellow boat on the left?

Does it looks messy with pile of foreground rocks?

I liked the rocks.. Perhaps it looks weird because your eyes don't have anywhere to really look at. Like everything points me to looking at the boat.. than the boat doesn't look very spectacualr leaving me feeling cheated. haha

Maybe it's just me.

I agree, the colors are fantastic, but i dont know what the focus is mean to be. A tighter crop to give a good area to focus on, would be better.

Perhaps the images has no where to crop off, that is the problem. Well, its the initial composition problem...
