Hi, we're looking for a volunteer photographer to take photos of dogs to raise funds to rescue and rehome abandoned or abused dogs and cats. Event - this coming Sat & Sun (Nov 17 & 18) AVA has organized a "Responsible Pet Ownership" road show at Ngee Ann City. (details below)

Do Not Abandon Your Pet! This is the theme for this years AVA's Responsible Pet Ownership (RPO) Roadshow. Come down for interactive displays, booths by animal welfare groups (such as Action for Singapore Dogs, SPCA, Cat Welfare Society, House Rabbit Society, and many more) stage games and demonstrations, RPO talks, kid's corner, pet related products, display of winners of RPO Pocket Calender Design Competition, etc. Pet postcards and other collaterals (freebies), prizes for quizzes are up for grabs. Also get expert advice from veterinarians with AVA officers present to answer questions.

Our regular volunteer photographer unfortunately is having exams and is unable to volunteer his time this coming weekend. We are looking for someone who can volunteer some time on Sat and/ or Sun (1pm to 6pm) to take photo for pets who come to our booth. It is a Christmas theme. Pet owners pay for the photo and the proceeds goes to charity. We can bring our laptop if you need us to - so owners can select pics on the spot. We will also use our own printer and paper. All we require is your time and photography experience and no fear of dogs :) Please email me if you are keen to volunteer your time or find our more. pops_snaps@singnet.com.sg Thanks!

Unfortunately I am not in Singapore on the dates, to help out.

If you need any backdrop and strobes let me know, get the volunteer photographer to contact me via PM.

I always have a soft spot for animals

Thanks so much - appreciate your kind offer :) If you know of anyone who could help out, please let me know!

Hi All, thanks for everyone's kindness and help - didnt explect so many people to PM me to fofer their services. Am really touched. I have managed to get one photographer for Sun (Nov 18) 10am to 2pm shift and another for 2pm to 6pm shift. Now I still need 2 more photographers to cover Saturday (Nov 17) shift - 10am to 2pm (1st shift) and 2pm to 6pm (2nd shift) although event officially runs to 10pm I'm concerned about the poor lighting at night. Also maybe owners dont take their dogs out so late?? If anyone can volunteer for Sat either of the shifts, pls email me at pops_snaps@singnet.com.sg Thanks again guys!

My gf and I might be able to help on Saturday. Have sent you an email. :)

OT: good luck to your exams Nicholas (raptor84)! Haven't seen you in a long long while. Hope to catch you around some time soon!

Not trying to be a wet blanket, but I find it odd that when others asking for volunteers for this and that "good causes" get shot down with negative replies with snide remarks too..

Hope, this trend of helping good causes continue and less of CSer shooting people down when other good causes looking for volunteers comes along.

I guess, those willing to help should just post and those with negative and snide comments should refrain from posting, it is good to see that there are many willing volunteers, kudos.

My observations ...

Depends on the organisation and the 'charity' event itself.

A lot of emotional and business exploitation takes place under the guise of 'charity'. It's been proven that outright fraud takes place under the name of charity.

If it's a big name associated golf charity or marina, chances are people will question why can afford such a high-profile event can't budget a $100/hr photog? Chances are, all the money have been channeled to other areas like rent, location and event management, rentals of structures, catering, staff etc, but photography, one of the two main mediums of mass communications to market the charity, nah ... forget about them. Can always get freebie photographers on CS.

If it's a small, obscure old folks home or homeless doggies (in this case, AVA), everyone knows such orgs don't have much money. SPCA has lots of money though, but then again SPCA has a lot of overheads ... so that's a different matter.

I've heard from those in the know, the animal control section of the AVA seems to be one of the 'more poor thing' departments of the umbrella, compared to the 'culture' departments (aquaculture, agriculture etc cos those departments do projects that generate profits whereas animal control handles all the 'problems' - animal logistics like vetrinary licensing, individual licensing, control and vectors, and a whole lot of 'baggage' like abandoment, homeless and population control). All these generally do not generate profits but some how or another use up funds.

Besides, all the volunteer organisations listed are run by passionate individuals, (and not large corporations) who have sacrificed much for homeless and abandoned animals. Most of them survive solely on what is earned thorugh events and donations.

hey i am always looking around for dogs to take and even approache people to ask if they aallow it. I will volunteer. If i am not selected, i will still go to shoot for myself. Aiming to take Full Head portraits of dogs with super Dof hehe thats my style

Is it alright if we go and shoot? Hopefully, you will allow more than one photographer to help, that way, all of us can do a part and generate even more for the poor animals.
